AAHP has heard from our members who are understandably frustrated following NL Health Services’ recent cybersecurity test that used a fake promise of paid leave as a lure.

While cybersecurity education is important, healthcare workers are facing enough pressure without being subjected to exercises that play on issues that deeply matter to them. Preying on their hopes of receiving long-overdue recognition and relief is unacceptable.

AAHP members continually deal with increasing workloads, staffing vacancies, and poor communication with leadership. These hard-working employees do not deserve this disrespect from their own executive and leadership team.

NL Health Services’ response is in poor taste and demonstrates an inability to learn from prior mistakes. This is only further evidence that something significant needs to change within the organization.

May 20 is National Psychometrist Day!

Today, the Association of Allied Health Professionals proudly recognizes Psychometrists—valued allied health professionals whose expertise plays a critical role in mental health care and assessment.

Psychometrists are highly trained specialists who administer, score, and interpret psychological and neuropsychological tests that measure cognitive abilities, language, motor and sensory function, and overall psychological well-being. Their work provides essential data that helps inform accurate diagnoses and guides effective treatment planning.

Working closely with Psychologists, Psychiatrists, and multidisciplinary teams, Psychometrists conduct detailed assessments, review client histories, and produce comprehensive reports that support individualized care. They also play an important role in identifying learning disabilities, supporting educational planning, and tracking patient progress through follow-up testing.

Their contributions are especially vital in neuropsychological assessments for individuals with brain injuries or neurological conditions, helping to guide rehabilitation and improve outcomes. By ensuring testing is conducted with precision and integrity, Psychometrists uphold the reliability and validity of results that patients and care teams depend on.

Today, we celebrate the important work of Psychometrists and thank them for their dedication to improving understanding, care, and quality of life for individuals and families.

Paramedic Services Week is May 17–23, 2026, and the Association of Allied Health Professionals would like to take the opportunity to recognize our Medical Flight Specialists - a highly specialized group of critical care professionals who are responsible for providing life-saving critical care support in the air.

This year’s theme, Improving Outcomes, Together, recognizes the vital role these professionals play in delivering high-quality emergency care and supporting the health and safety of our communities.

Medical Flight Specialists are valued allied health professionals who are there in life’s most critical moments, providing rapid, skilled care when it matters most. These specialists provide life-saving interventions in high-pressure environments, stabilizing patients during transport and ensuring timely access to advanced medical care, even in remote or hard-to-reach locations.

From emergency response on the ground to critical care in the air, these professionals work collaboratively with healthcare teams to improve patient outcomes every day. Their expertise, dedication, and commitment to care make a profound difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

This week, we thank our Medical Flight Specialists for their unwavering service—and recognize that improving outcomes truly takes all of us, working together.

May is Physiotherapy Month! This month we celebrate the incredible contributions of Physiotherapists and this year’s theme “Physiotherapy Moves Communities.” 💙

Physiotherapists are integral to our healthcare system, playing a vital role in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of a wide range of physical conditions and injuries. Through their expertise in rehabilitation, injury prevention, pain management, and chronic disease care, they help people of all ages improve mobility, restore function, and enhance quality of life.

From supporting recovery after surgery or injury to helping individuals manage chronic conditions such as arthritis, COPD, stroke, and multiple sclerosis, Physiotherapists are essential members of the allied health workforce. They work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive, patient-centred care.

Physiotherapists not only help people recover — they empower individuals and communities through education, prevention, therapeutic exercise, and personalized care plans that promote independence, strength, balance, and long-term wellness.

AAHP proudly recognizes and thanks Physiotherapists for the vital role they play in keeping our communities moving, healthy, and thriving.

May is Speech and Hearing Month! 🗣👂🏻

The Association of Allied Health Professionals is proud to recognize the dedicated work of Speech-Language Pathologists, Audiologists, and Auditory-Verbal Therapists. This year’s theme, Access Changes Everything, reminds us how vital communication health services are at every stage of life.

Access to speech-language pathology and audiology services can profoundly shape a person’s life. When individuals receive timely care, they benefit from stronger health outcomes, deeper social connections, and greater opportunities to succeed in school, work, and their communities. When access is limited, communication challenges can lead to stress, social isolation, academic difficulties, and barriers in everyday life—affecting not only individuals, but also their families and communities.

Speech-Language Pathologists play a critical role in diagnosing and treating communication and swallowing disorders. They support individuals in developing or regaining speech, understanding language, and expressing themselves, while also helping those with dysphagia and cognitive-communication challenges.

Audiologists are experts in hearing and balance health. Through assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation, they help individuals improve communication, regain independence, and enhance overall quality of life, while also promoting hearing protection and prevention.

Auditory-Verbal Therapists empower individuals with hearing loss—especially children—to develop listening and spoken language skills. By working closely with families and using specialized interventions, they help break down communication barriers and support lifelong success.

This May, we highlight the importance of equitable access to these essential allied health professionals because access truly changes everything.
