Prairie Pride Guild of Medicine Hat and District

Prairie Pride Guild of Medicine Hat and District We formed the Prairie Pride Guild of Medicine Hat and District in 2024. Charlie unfortunately passed away in the early 2000s, and Prairie Pride was no more.

We host and/or participate in community events, partner with other community agencies, and educate and support the community to further the Pride movement in Medicine Hat and District. A group of 9 dedicated volunteers, the Prairie Pride Guild pays homage to the very roots of the Pride Movement in Medicine Hat. Started by Charlie Thompson during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, his organization, "Pra

irie Pride" brought together q***r leaders in Medicine Hat and fought for inclusion and understanding at a time when equality was far from a reality. The incorporation of this new Guild will give us a fresh start, and an opportunity to do good in our community, while paying respects to our shared history through the name Prairie Pride Guild.

So amazing to see such a great turn out from the community of Medicine Hat! Thanks to everyone who showed up!

Biggest thanks to everyone who stood in line for donuts which a lot of you weren't even certain of getting.

Second to the Pride Guild, who gave up their fundraiser slot with almost zero notice, and still provided two pairs of hands to help out.

And next the volunteers. Kim and Jamie from Pride put in many hours. Judy returned to us to help out. Between the three of them they cut the majority of the 2,900 rings we made yesterday. My mom, my wife Carole, Landon the Excellent, and one lady who just came back and folded boxes for an hour: More than half the people behind the counter yesterday weren't getting paid, and their efforts are apprec iated.

There are still many good things going on, I've seen happenings at the bottle depots, Rebel Yoga, Mango Tree and I'm sure more, go ahead and leave info in the comments if you know of any. God's blessings on you, on them, on all of us. Stay safe; hug your children tight.

We wanted to let our community know of a change to tomorrow’s donut fundraiser at McBride’s Bakery.

The Prairie Pride Guild was originally scheduled to be the beneficiary of the donut sales. In light of the tragic incident involving a local youth yesterday, we will be stepping aside so that the proceeds can instead support the family during this incredibly difficult time.

Our hearts are with the family, friends, and everyone affected by this loss. We know our community will come together to offer support, love, and care when it is needed most.

We are grateful to McBride’s Bakery for their partnership and generosity in choosing to support this family during such a tragedy. We look forward to rescheduling our fundraiser at a later date.

As a thank-you for supporting tomorrow’s fundraiser, everyone who purchases donuts will still be entered to win tickets to “Drag Me to Cowboys.”

Simply leave a comment on this post after your purchase if you would like to be entered into the draw.

Thank you for your understanding and for supporting our community.

💜 Prairie Pride Guild

Tomorrow, Wed June 17th our Donut Fundraiser will be for the benefit of the family following yesterday's tragedy. All donut sales will be donated. Our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to the family, friends, classmates and school community.

Don't miss this great opportunity to learn from Two-Spirit Knowledge Keeper, Warren Winnipeg!

Join us for an evening of learning, reflection, and community as a Knowledge Keeper, Warren Winnipeg, shares teachings on Two-Spirit identity, history, roles, and perspectives within Indigenous cultures and traditions.

This session offers an opportunity to deepen understanding, ask questions, and engage in respectful dialogue about gender diversity through an Indigenous lens. Whether you are Two-Spirit, LGBTQIA+, an ally, a community member, or someone interested in learning more, all are welcome.
