Queens Community Health Board is a group of volunteers working together to improve health & wellness through advocacy, community partnerships and distributing Wellness Fund grants. As described in Health Authorities Act - Bill No. 1, a Community Health Board:
• Works with the community to identify and promote community health promotion initiatives for inclusion in the community health plan;
• Part
icipates in health promotion initiatives identified in the community health plan that have been approved in the Nova Scotia Health Authority NSHA’s health services business plan;
• Provides guidance to the NSHA on strategies to further engage the community on issues regarding health services;
• Provides such other advice and assistance as the NSHA may request;
• As directed by the NSHA’s public engagement plan, consults with the residents of the communities they serve with respect to:
o the Social Determinants of Health - issues relating to health, including income and social status, social support networks, education, employment, physical environments, inherited factors in determining health outcomes, personal health practices and coping skills, child development and health services in the community,
o health needs and priorities,
o access to health services, and
o the promotion of health;
• Provides advice, information and feedback to the NSHA from public engagement plan consultations; and
• Participates with the NSHA in the selection of Wellness Fund grant recipients to advance health promotion initiatives in the community.
