The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has issued a Flood Outlook Statement for the Niagara Peninsula Watershed.

This notice is intended to advise the public and local municipalities of the status of watercourse and Great Lakes conditions within the Niagara Peninsula and the eastern portions of the City of Hamilton and Haldimand County.

Unsettled weather and the risk of severe thunderstorms is expected for this afternoon and into Thursday morning. Forecasted rainfall amounts of 10 - 40 mm is expected across the watershed. Isolated thunderstorms may produce an additional 25 to 50 mm in localized areas, with total rainfall amounts potentially exceeding 85 to 90 mm in some locations.

While the NPCA does not anticipate major flooding along larger watercourses, flash flooding along small and urbanized watercourses, rapid increase in water levels and localized flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas may occur. Current water levels are below critical elevations.

The NPCA will continue to monitor conditions closely and issue updates as required. Current flood status information is available at:

Flood Outlook Statement

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is advising local municipalities, emergency services, and the public of the potential for flooding within its jurisdiction. This includes the Niagara Peninsula, the southeastern portion of the City of Hamilton, and the eastern portion of Haldimand County.

A slow-moving weather system is expected to bring thunderstorms and significant rainfall from Saturday, August 22, through Monday, August 24. Total rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 mm are possible, with locally higher amounts where thunderstorms develop. Thunderstorms may produce an additional 15 to 25 mm in affected areas.

Major flooding along larger watercourses is not currently anticipated. However, intense rainfall may cause flash flooding along small and urbanized watercourses, rapid increases in water levels, and localized flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Current water levels remain well below critical elevations.

Residents are strongly advised to stay away from creeks, rivers, and other waterbodies. Water levels may rise quickly, and banks may become slippery and unstable.
Children and pets should be kept away from waterways.
Property owners are encouraged to clear debris from culverts, catch basins, and ditches.
Municipal and regional staff are advised to inspect stormwater infrastructure and monitor known flood-prone areas.

⚠️ Scam Alert – Fraudulent Messages Are Still Circulating

We continue to receive reports of fraudulent messages targeting Thanksgiving Festival vendors and attendees.

The sender is falsely claiming to represent the Thanksgiving Festival and requesting applications to secure a vendor space. These messages are a scam.

Please remember:
🍂Official Thanksgiving Festival emails will only come from .ca or .ca email addresses.
🍂We will never ask you to send an unexpected Interac e-Transfer to reserve a vendor space.
🍂Vendor applications for the 2026 Thanksgiving Festival are closed.

If you receive a suspicious message, please do not respond or send payment. If you're ever unsure whether a message is legitimate, contact us directly using the contact information listed on our official website.

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has issued a Water Safety Statement for the Niagara Watershed

This notice is intended to advise the public and local municipalities of the status of the watercourses within the Niagara Peninsula and eastern portions of the City of Hamilton and Haldimand County.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has forecasted localized thunderstorms across Southern Ontario today (Saturday). It is expected to bring isolated but intense periods of rainfall - up to 30 mm/hr. Rainfall accumulations are unpredictable during this time of year but can exceed 50 mm in some areas.

All watercourses are currently below critical levels. While the NPCA does not anticipate major flooding along larger watercourses flash flooding in urbanized and low-lying areas is likely to occur. Overland surface runoff may also occur along smaller watercourses or in flat, poorly drained rural areas - typically within floodplains.

This notice is intended to advise the public and local municipalities of the status of watercourse conditions within the Niagara Peninsula and the eastern portions of the City of Hamilton and Haldimand County.

A low-pressure system is tracking through Southern Ontario today (Sunday). It is expected to bring widespread rainfall across the Niagara Peninsula, with a risk of isolated thunderstorms in some areas. General rainfall amounts of 20 to 30 mm are possible throughout the south, with thunderstorms potentially producing an additional 10 to 25 mm.

Environment Canada models indicate that localized thunderstorms could generate rainfall amounts exceeding 50 mm, in addition to the general rainfall. As a result, total precipitation amounts could exceed 80 mm in some southern areas.

As the system exits through the southeastern corridor tomorrow (Monday), an additional 10 to 15 mm of rainfall is forecast, along with a further 10 to 15 mm from localized thunderstorms.

Over the next two-day period (Sunday-Monday), southern Ontario could receive cumulative rainfall totals of 30 to 45 mm from general precipitation, with localized thunderstorms contributing an additional 20 to 40 mm. In areas affected by the heaviest thunderstorms, total rainfall could exceed 80 mm.

While the NPCA does not anticipate major flooding along larger watercourses flash flooding in urbanized and low-lying areas is likely to occur. Overland surface runoff may also occur along smaller watercourses or in flat, poorly drained rural areas - typically within floodplains.

There is a risk of severe thunderstorms capable of producing torrential rainfall - between 50 - 75 mm - arriving this evening and into tomorrow morning. Given the instability of storm behaviour during this time of year, there remains some uncertainty as to where the highest rainfall amounts will be.

While the NPCA does not anticipate major flooding along larger watercourses, flash flooding in urbanized and low-lying areas is likely to occur. Overland surface runoff may also occur in flat, poorly drained rural areas - typically within floodplains - during intense rain events when culverts and ditches become overwhelmed and force water to spread outside of defined channels.

This notice remains in effect until 12:00 PM on Tuesday, July 28th, 2026, and will be updated as conditions warrant.
