As part of ongoing efforts to regenerate and protect Ontario’s forests, selected stands (see map) will be sprayed with herbicide to control competing vegetation, starting on or about July 25, 2026.
Additional Information regarding the size and scope of the Herbicide Project in relation to the area harvested and planted with conifer seedlings (black spruce, white spruce and jack pine). Forested stand on the Gordon Cosens Forest that require competition release/control (tending or site preparation) for the survival of the conifer seedlings are typically treated once to allow the conifer seedling to get established until they are harvested again 70 to 100 years later. The table below is showing the Annual Report data that is submitted to MNR for the Gordon Cosens Forest.

Dans le cadre de nos efforts continuels en vue de regénérer et de protéger les forêts de l’Ontario, des peuplements sélectionnés (voir la carte) seront arrosés d’un traitement d’herbicide pour contrôler la végétation concurrente à partir ou autour du 25 juillet 2026.
Voici des informations complémentaires concernant l'ampleur et la portée du projet d'utilisation d'herbicides par rapport aux superficies récoltées et plantées de semis de conifères (épinette noire, épinette blanche et pin gris). Dans la forêt Gordon Cosens, les peuplements nécessitant une intervention pour limiter la concurrence (entretien sylvicole ou préparation du site) afin d'assurer la survie des semis de conifères font généralement l'objet d'un seul traitement ; celui-ci permet aux semis de s'établir en attendant la prochaine récolte, prévue 70 à 100 ans plus t**d. Le tableau ci-dessous présente les données du rapport annuel soumis au ministère des Richesses naturelles (MRN) pour la forêt Gordon Cosens.
