Kahnawake Collective Impact

Kahnawake Collective Impact Kahnawà:ke Collective Impact is a movement to engage, facilitate, and support community projects.

We all want a strong, healthy and financially secure Mohawk community for ourselves and our future generations. Kahnawà:ke Collective Impact is a long-term community engagement process to encourage community conversations to identify opportunities and challenges around:
◦ Language and Culture
◦ Education and Learning
◦ Employment, Jobs, and Business Development
◦ Health and Wellness (Physical, Men

tal, Emotional, Spiritual)

Collaboration encourages community conversations, which in turn leads to the eventual development of solutions.

***Please note that although we encourage feedback and conversation, disrespectful, or discriminatory comments on any posts will not be tolerated, and will be deleted. Our space will continue to be positive and safe for all viewers and participants.

Imagine trying to paddle a giant canoe all by yourself. It’s pretty tough, right? You might just spin around in circles.

But what happens when you and everyone you know jumps in, grab paddles, and finds the same rhythm? You fly across the water! ⚡

That is what we call Collective Impact.

It’s a fancy way of saying “Teamwork magic”. Instead of one school, one organization, or one neighbor trying to fix a big problem alone, we all jump into the same canoe. We agree on where we are going and then we start paddling together. Because when we work as one team, we can truly go anywhere we want.

True change doesn't happen when we are working in silos. It happens when every single one of us connects the dots together! 🤝✨

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our Pollinator Workshop🐝🌼

It was so wonderful seeing community members come together to learn about the importance of pollinators and gardening practices that help them thrive. Your participation, questions, and enthusiasm made the workshop such a meaningful and enjoyable experience!

A very special thank you to our presenter Journey-Skye Diabo for sharing your knowledge, time, and passion with us. Your guidance and insight helped us all to create more pollinator friendly spaces in our community!

Moving together from the heart 💜

What happens when we create a space where everyone is seen, every voice is heard, and every heart is open? Real progress begins.

This week (May 5–6), we came together for two powerful days of learning and connection.

We didn't just talk about frameworks and "systems change". We talked about our people, our shared future, and the mindset shifts needed to truly move the needle.

In these sessions, we reminded ourselves of a vital truth: to truly change the system, we must first look inward. It means having the courage to:

- Enter spaces as equals, knowing that our greatest strength is found when we listen as much as we lead.
- Listen with an open spirit, creating a safe space where the true needs of our neighbors can finally be heard.
- Reach out in partnership today, choosing to offer a hand of support rather than looking back at what stayed still.

From exploring the fundamentals of Collective Impact to mapping out the ecosystems that support our families, the energy in the room was a testament to the strength of Kahnawà:ke.

When we stop working in silos and start acting as one collective, we don't just solve problems. We can actually change the systems that create them.

Nia:wen to every representative who stepped away from their busy desks to contribute their wisdom, their challenges, and their vision. You showed up with an open mind, and because of that, we leave these sessions with more than just tools. We leave with a shared path forward.

🌱 Collective Impact in Action: A fresh start for Food Sovereignty & Security @ KCI

We just held our first ad hoc Food Sovereignty & Security action team meeting since our restructuring, and it was incredible.

This was Collective Impact happening right before our eyes. We had a room full of different perspectives, unique lived experiences, and distinct personalities and that is exactly where the magic happens.

It was proof that we don’t have to be the same to want the same for our community. 🌽✨

It’s simple: different people, different strengths, one shared goal. When we sync up like this, we become an unstoppable force for our community!

What’s next❓

We’re already counting down the days until our next meeting in May.

Stay tuned here for more updates as we work, together, for the health and future of Kahnawà:ke.

🌱 Not sure what to plant? This is your sign.

If you start the right seeds at the right time, your entire growing season gets easier (and way more productive).

Last Thursday and Friday, our new Language & Culture Facilitator, Iakorihwató:ken, proudly represented Kahnawà:ke Collective Impact at the Tsitewatá:ti: Let Us Speak Again Language Symposium hosted at McGill University.

One of the most powerful moments came during Friday afternoon’s panel, where fluent Mohawk speakers led an entire discussion in Onkwehonwehnéha.

Even more exciting? The panel featured a mix of L1 (first language) and L2 (second language) speakers, with a live English translation projected behind them. This is something that, to their knowledge, had never been done before.

She also connected with translator Otsi:tsia Sunday from Akwesasne, highlighting the importance of collaboration in language revitalization.

Our language is living and growing 💜
