We're getting to the point in our rescue where original rescue animals who have been here from the beginning, will begin to slip away. This was one of those losses.

Ace came here 7½ years ago with her sisters Bailee and Annabelle after her owner suddenly passed away.
She has been the farm pretty girl from the beginning. Self care was #1 - which meant being the first one in the pool to clean herself, the one who spent the most time preening. The first one to the best snacks, the first pick for the best nest and above all, the head honcho so all that can happen.

She raised so many babies, some were hers, some were co-nested with another mama and some were adopted by her. But all knew a true mother's love because of Ace.

She was my girl, and I absolutely adored her.

At 9 years old, she traded in her wing deformity for true angel wings, and will be dearly missed 🩷

You see that smug little face?

Yeah. Thats the face of a bird who should have been named Bullseye. I don't normally change established names - but I may actually have to make an exception.

Hefty is a Lahore pigeon who absolutely loves to rain on my parade. Literally.

Picture this - you walk into the Pigeon Pandarosa, aware of all the little bodies in the way of your feet, trying with all your might to find the best way in without hurting anyone or letting anyone out. Absolutely NOT paying attention to the incoming warfare from above.... then, you feel it. The warm sensation of p**p in your hair. Or down your neck. Or god forbid, down the side of your face.

It started as near hits here and there, and has ended in a perfected form.

Some see it as good luck. Others see it as a pain in the butt. Me? I see it as vengeance for something I was not a part of - because not only has he gotten me for the third day IN A ROW, I actually got to see him at the corner of my eye, shuffle and shift with my movements to ensure he got me.

Humans did something to this bird in the past, and he intends on protesting whatever it was. I am very interested in changing his mind, for the sake of my shampoo use.

This isn't over, sir!

Well? Did you notice the new face??

Meet Alfie! He was previously supposed to be a companion to a young pig, but it was quickly noticed that pig preferred his own space without a bouncing baby boy disturbing the peace (and using him as a climber).

For everyone's safety, and happiness, 6 month old Nigerian Dwarf, Alfie made his way here and has quickly fallen into place beside Chief and Alabama like the cutest baby brother.

I find it no coincidence he shares his name with another farm favourite, Aflie the bunny who passed away earlier this year - way too soon for me.

I love being able to say the name again and have something respond eagerly for cuddles or treats 🩷
