Guardian Marine Rescue extends our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the individual recovered from Lake St. Clair following a search in the Lakeshore area.

Guardian Marine Rescue was tasked to assist with the search and worked alongside partner agencies, including the Canadian Coast Guard Inshore Rescue Boat and the United States Coast Guard.

Incidents like this are incredibly difficult for families, communities, and everyone involved in the response. Our thoughts are with all those affected.

We would also like to thank our volunteer crew members and partner agencies for their efforts during this search.

Out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation, Guardian Marine Rescue will not be sharing further details.

Training Together on Lake St. Clair

Last night, members of Guardian Marine Rescue trained alongside the Canadian Coast Guard Inshore Rescue Boat crew from Mitchell’s Bay for a joint training session on Lake St. Clair.

During the evening, CG03 practiced long towing and hip towing with Alida, giving both crews the opportunity to work through towing procedures, communication, vessel positioning, and coordination on the water.

Following the towing evolutions, crews took part in a mock search and rescue exercise, allowing members from both organizations to work together in a realistic training environment.

Joint training opportunities like this are extremely valuable. They allow crews to learn from one another, build familiarity between units, and strengthen the working relationships that are essential when multiple search and rescue resources respond to the same incident.

A sincere thank you to the crew of CG03 for training with us. We appreciate the opportunity to work together and continue building readiness on Lake St. Clair.

Guardian Marine Rescue would like to extend a sincere thank you to Harrow Full Circle Thrift Shop for their generous support of our organization through a recent $1,500 donation.

Community support like this plays a direct role in helping us continue our marine search and rescue operations across Lake Erie, the Detroit River, and Lake St. Clair. Donations help support vessel maintenance, training, fuel, safety equipment, and operational readiness for our volunteer crews.

As a volunteer-based organization, partnerships with local businesses and community groups are incredibly important to what we do.

Yesterday afternoon, Guardian Marine Rescue was tasked by Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton to respond to a disabled vessel on Lake Erie west of Point Pelee.

The crew aboard Colchester Guardian responded and safely towed the vessel back to Leamington Marina.

Shortly after completing the tow, the crew was tasked to a second disabled vessel approximately 1 nautical mile outside of Leamington Marina. That vessel was also safely assisted back to harbour.

As boating traffic continues to increase heading into summer, we encourage all boaters to ensure their vessel is properly maintained, communication equipment is functional, and required safety gear is onboard before heading onto the water.

Training Together to Better Serve Lake St. Clair

This past Monday, members of Guardian Marine Rescue's Lakeshore crew were joined by the crew of Canadian Coast Guard Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) CG1003 from Mitchell's Bay for a joint training session on Lake St. Clair.

The Canadian Coast Guard's Inshore Rescue Boat program provides dedicated summer search and rescue coverage in high-traffic waterways across Canada, helping ensure a rapid response to mariners in distress.

Throughout the evening, crews practised towing operations, pacing exercises, vessel familiarization, and operational coordination. Members also had the opportunity to tour each other's vessels, discuss equipment and procedures, and exchange knowledge and experience.

Joint training opportunities like these are an important part of maintaining readiness. They help strengthen operational skills, improve communication between units, and build the working relationships that are essential when multiple search and rescue resources are responding to the same incident.

A sincere thank you to the crew of CG1003 for hosting and training alongside us. We look forward to working together again in the future.

Training nights are where skills are built before emergencies happen.

This week, our crew spent the evening working through dockside training focused on:

- throw bags
- dewatering pumps
- vessel familiarization
- cleats and line handling
- person-in-water recovery techniques

It was great to see newer members training alongside experienced crew as we continue preparing for the 2026 boating season.

Every hour spent training helps ensure we’re ready when the call comes.
