A big thank you to Dancing Swallows Vineyard for supporting Guardian Marine Rescue with a donation of approximately 60 cases of empty wine bottles today!

Community support comes in many forms, and contributions like this help us continue working toward our fundraising goals while keeping our volunteer crews equipped and ready to serve.

We’re very grateful to Dancing Swallows Vineyard for thinking of GMR and for helping support volunteer marine search and rescue here in Essex County.

Thank you! 💙⚓

A few of our members got a little more training than they bargained for last night.

Don, Noah and Holly joined Sault Search and Rescue on the water while in the area, giving everyone a chance to exchange knowledge, work with a different crew and learn from how another SAR unit operates.

Then Holly took the helm.

Shortly afterward, a mechanical issue meant the rest of the evening included an unexpected towing exercise back to shore.

Coincidence? Almost certainly.

Will we let Holly forget it? Absolutely not. 😂

All jokes aside, unexpected situations are often where some of the best learning happens. Thanks to Sault SAR for having our crew out and for a great night on the water.

Tasking Complete | Overdue Personal Watercraft

Guardian Marine Rescue was tasked alongside Cape Discovery to assist in the search for an overdue personal watercraft on Lake Erie.

The search concluded safely when the rider returned to shore.

Incidents like these serve as an important reminder that even a short trip on the water can quickly become a concern if family or friends become concerned about your whereabouts.

Before heading out:

• Tell someone where you're going and when you expect to return.

• Carry a reliable means of communication. A marine VHF radio is often the most reliable way to call for help on the water, as cellular coverage isn't always available.

• If your plans change or you're delayed, let someone know whenever possible.

Our volunteers remain ready to respond whenever we're needed, but we'd always rather spend a few minutes helping people prepare for a safe day on the water than have to search for someone whose loved ones don't know where they are.

A safe outcome is always the best outcome. Stay safe on the water.

Earlier today, Guardian Marine Rescue joined the Canadian Coast Guard's Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) program for a joint search and rescue exercise coordinated by the Canadian Coast Guard.

Following the on-water portion of the exercise, the IRB crew responded to a simulated medical emergency aboard Alida. The scenario challenged responders to assess, treat, package, and evacuate a patient from the confined spaces found aboard many vessels.

Marine medical emergencies present unique challenges. Narrow passageways, steep companionways, limited space to work, and moving platforms all require responders to adapt their techniques while continuing to provide high-quality patient care.

Training alongside our partners helps ensure that when a real emergency occurs, responders from multiple organizations can work together safely and effectively.

Thank you to the Canadian Coast Guard SAR Coordinator and the CCG IRB crew for another valuable day of training.

Today, members of Guardian Marine Rescue were pleased to take part in the Water Safety Day hosted by Parks Canada at Point Pelee National Park.

Throughout the day, our volunteers spoke with visitors about safe boating practices, drowning prevention, proper life jacket use, and offered free pleasure craft safety inspections. We also had the opportunity to answer questions about Guardian Marine Rescue and the work our volunteers do throughout Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair, and the Detroit River.

Thank you to Parks Canada for inviting us to participate, and to everyone who stopped by our display. It's always a pleasure to connect with the community and help promote safe and enjoyable days on the water.

Remember: wear your life jacket, be prepared before you leave the dock, and enjoy the rest of your summer safely.
