June is PTSD Awareness Month 💜

This month, we honor the strength of survivors, challenge stigma, and encourage compassion, and support to those healing from trauma.

PTSD is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing a traumatic event.

Symptoms can include flashbacks, nightmares, hyperawareness, emotional numbness or feeling detached, difficulty trusting others, and more.

Childhood s*xual abuse is the leading cause of PTSD in women.

There is no right way to respond to trauma. PTSD symptoms can appear immediately or later. Healing is possible with support, connection, and trauma-informed care.

You are not alone. Healing is possible 💜

**🌿 Gentle Reminders 🌿**

Healing isn't about forgetting—it's about learning to move forward with compassion for yourself.

💜 Your feelings are valid.
💜 Rest is necessary.
💜 Some days, surviving is winning.
💜 Tears are not a sign of defeat.
💜 You can struggle and still be healing.

You are not alone. 💜

Today, we came together for the 2nd Annual Step Up For Survivors Walk in recognition of Sexual Violence Prevention Month.💜

On behalf of Voices for Women Sudbury Sexual Assault Centre, thank you to everyone who attended, walked beside us, and showed support for survivors in our community. We are especially grateful to our community partners, whose ongoing collaboration and commitment help strengthen the network of care, advocacy, and support available to survivors across our community.

Community partnerships are essential in the work of preventing s*xual violence and supporting survivors. When organizations, services, advocates, and community members come together, we create safer spaces, increase awareness, improve access to support, and build a stronger, more connected community.

Meaningful change happens through collective action, and today was a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together.

The goal of Step Up For Survivors event is to raise awareness about s*xual violence, honour survivors, and encourage our community to stand together in prevention, education, healing, and advocacy. Every step taken today represented solidarity, hope, and a shared commitment to ending s*xual violence.

Thank you for stepping up with us and for continuing this important work beyond today. 💜

Today we attended the Angels of Hope Against Human Trafficking lunch-and-learn event at Verdicchios, in recognition of Victims and Survivors of Crime Week 2026.

Karly Church, a survivor of domestic s*x trafficking shared her lived experience and offered valuable insight into the realities of exploitation.

A huge thank you, to Karly for sharing her lived experience and insight 💜

The presentation provided a comprehensive overview of domestic s*x trafficking, including clear definitions and the debunking of common myths and misconceptions.

In addition, the presentation highlighted key warning signs of trafficking, helping service providers identify red flags and respond more effectively.

On behalf of our Voices for Women team & our sister program, the Violence Intervention & Prevention Program, we thank the organizers and speakers for this valuable event.

This Mental Health Week, we're recognizing the power of social connection and the important role it plays in our mental health, well-being and healing.

Connection helps us feel seen, supported, and less alone. Whether it's sharing a conversation, spending time with others, or reaching out for support, meaningful connection can help build resilience and healing.

At Voices for Women Sudbury Sexual Assault Centre, there are many ways to connect with others in a safe and welcoming space:
