In October 2018 the Delta Firefighters reported the following to the Brothers and Sisters of the lAFF;

It is with deepest regret and sorrow to report the line-of-duty death of Fire Fighter Thomas Haydon, IAFF District 6 Local 1763, Delta, BC. Brother Haydon, 36, passed away on October 8, 2018, from cancer.

Thomas William Haydon, 36, of Ladner, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family.

Thomas was easygoing and full of life. A long-time lacrosse player, winning the President’s Cup in 2004, lacrosse coach, proud Delta Firefighter and Journeyman Welder. He was an outdoorsman, who loved his nature shows and had a love for farming, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, biking, woodworking and most importantly, he loved being a dad.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta, and three children: Eric, Isabel and Lucas.

Since Thomas’ passing, he has been recognized by Delta Lacrosse through the Thomas Haydon Memorial Award. The new Ladner lacrosse box scoreboard was built in Thomas’s memory - a tribute to his extraordinary commitment to the Delta lacrosse community throughout his life.

In past years during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November, Thomas’ family, Delta Firefighters and the community in Delta have remembered him by raising money for the BC Cancer Foundation.

Thomas continues to be missed by his family, friends and colleagues at the Delta Fire Department.

On March 6, 2023, Thomas’ name was recognized at the BC Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial on the south lawn of the BC Legislature in Victoria.

Delta Firefighters IAFF Local 1763 is proud to announce our endorsement of professional firefighter Brother Todd Schierling in his campaign for MLA in Delta North.

Our endorsement is built on the individual we know and the strong relationship Delta Firefighters have shared with Todd over many years. A 30-year Fire Captain with Surrey Fire Service, a lifelong North Delta resident, coach, and volunteer, Todd’s dedication to our community is personal. Raised in Annieville by a proud blue-collar welder who taught him the value of hard work and looking out for others, he carries those working-class roots into every role he takes on.

In his role as President of the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Association (BCPFFA), Todd led the historic expansion of BC's presumptive cancer coverage—securing Canada's strongest health and workplace safety protections for firefighters—while driving critical first responder mental health resiliency programs. Alongside his union leadership, he advocates directly for public safety, fire safety legislation, and community well-being, while also serving as President of the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund to support burn survivors and critical care across the province.

His leadership across these organizations isn't driven by abstract policy, but by decades of real-world experience on the front lines and at the decision-making table.

Todd has proven experience in Victoria advocating for the safety and well-being of firefighters and working families. Who sits in the Legislature matters, and having someone with his track record and experience advocating in Victoria will ensure strong, effective representation for North Delta.

⚡ Charge on a hard, flat surface: Keep devices off beds, couches, and soft materials.

⚡ Unplug when fully charged: Avoid leaving devices plugged in indefinitely.

⚡ Give larger batteries space: Ensure e-bike and power tool batteries have room to ventilate.

⚡ Watch for warning signs: If a battery swells, leaks, smells, or overheats, stop using it immediately.

Delta Firefighters IAFF Local 1763 is proud to announce our endorsement of Ian Paton for re-election as MLA for Delta South.

Ian’s commitment to public safety runs deep, rooted in his firsthand experience as a former volunteer firefighter at Delta’s Hall 4. From his early days on Delta City Council in 2010 through his service as MLA since 2017, Ian has consistently stood alongside our members, listened to frontline concerns, and championed the safety of Delta families.

Having a proven partner in Victoria who understands the physical and mental demands placed on first responders makes a real difference. Ian has earned our trust through years of open dialogue, direct collaboration, and steady leadership.
