Following the tragic line of duty death of Firefighter Alexandru Uichita on May 21, 2026, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones. Likewise we extend condolences to the membership of the Bridgetown Volunteer Fire Department.

The loss of a firefighter in the line of duty is felt across the entire fire service family. Firefighter Uichita’s dedication, courage, and commitment to serving his community will not be forgotten. As volunteer firefighters, we share a unique bond. We answer the same calls, face the same risks, and share the same fundamental drive to protect our communities. When one of us falls, we all grieve.

Rest easy, brother. Your service and sacrifice will always be remembered.

May 23: In the interest of public safety, domestic burning is NOT permitted in the following counties: Shelburne & Yarmouth

Restricted domestic burning is permitted between the hours of 7:00 P.M and 8:00 A.M in the following counties: Annapolis, Antigonish, Cape Breton Island, Colchester, Cumberland, Digby, Guysborough, Halifax, Hants, Kings, Lunenburg, Pictou, & Queens Counties.

—————————————————————
Please note, there is no domestic burning between 8:00 A.M and 2:00 P.M daily, and restrictions are reassessed and posted everyday at 2:00 P.M; in fire risk season.

The restrictions apply to all open fires, which encompass campfires, fire pits, chimineas, fire bowls, and outdoor wood-burning stoves, along with burn barrels. Additionally, domestic brush burning and industrial burning activities, including those for agricultural purposes and clearing building lots, are subject to these rules. Fire restrictions also apply to provincial, municipal, and private campgrounds, while national parks are governed by Parks Canada. However, the daily fire restrictions do not apply to CSA-approved appliances when used according to the manufacturer's instructions. This includes devices such as barbecues, fire bowls, stoves, and patio heaters that operate on propane, natural gas, or other gases intended for these appliances, with charcoal barbecues permitted only when using briquettes.

To report a wildfire or violations of fire restrictions (including illegal burns), please call 1-800-565-2224, or 9-1-1. The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables (DNR) and/or the local fire department will be notified and dispatched to the location of the fire.

Consumer fireworks are prohibited by the Office of the Fire Marshal when the fire risk map is red. However, professional fireworks companies with permits and appropriate fire equipment and measures are allowed to use fireworks.

Additionally, you must also follow your municipal bylaws.

This evenings training we reviewed the stowage locations and uses of our growing collection of DeWalt tools. Everything from a driver to a leaf blower to a collection of saws and grinders.

Later we practiced working with a bunch of the tools - cutting glass, sheet metal and other things.

Shout out to I.C. Mac tools as our primary supplier of all things DeWalt.

Many of these purchases are made possible by your ongoing Firefighter 50/50 contributions.

We've had a busy 24 hours.

It started at 6:45pm yesterday: while preparing for regular training, we got paged for a commerical fire alarm. It took a bit more effort than is 'typical' to clear that call and we started training at 7:30pm.

Training was a ground fire simulation. In this case we we're advancing our wildland fire hose to attack simulated fire (single ply toilet paper) over a significant distance. We deployed 800' of hose during the training.

Fast forward to this morning and a 7:15AM medical call followed by a 9:40AM call for mutual aid tanker and manpower support to a structure fire in the Onslow-Belmont district.

Thanks to our dedicated membership for attending these calls.

We're thankful to the public for giving us space to work, respecting our lights and sirens, and your ongoing financial support.
