Joint Training with Air Cadets & BCEHS!

We were pleased to host the Air Cadets at the fire hall for a joint training session alongside our partners at BCEHS!

The group learned essential hands-on skills, including knots and systems, bleeding control, and CPR.

A big thank you to the Air Cadets for joining us and to BCEHS for continuing to support teamwork, learning, and community safety! 🤝

🔥 Yesterday, Deputy Chief Horsfield visited Little Prairie Elementary for a Fire Prevention Week lesson on lithium-ion battery safety!

We’ve extended our Fire Prevention Week school visits to reach as many classes across our local schools as possible.

The students were fantastic—enthusiastic, engaged and full of great questions! Thank you to the students and staff for the warm welcome and for making fire safety a priority. 🚒

🔋🚒 Fire Prevention Week at Peace Christian School Kindergarten - Grade 6!

Today, Deputy Fire Chief Horsfield visited Peace Christian School to talk about lithium-ion batteries and fire safety.

The simulated battery explosion was a big hit with the students! The demonstration sparked plenty of excitement and helped bring the battery safety lesson to life.

Thank you to all the students and staff for their participation, great questions and warm welcome. We love seeing students get involved in learning how to keep themselves and their families safe!

🚨 WHEN THE ALARM SOUNDS — GET OUT AND STAY OUT.

A sounding alarm is your warning to act. We should never become comfortable ignoring an alarm or assuming it’s a false alarm. Every alarm should be taken seriously.

When you hear an alarm:
🚪 Get out right away. Don’t wait to see if there is actually a fire.
đź“Ť Go to your designated meeting place so everyone can be accounted for.
🛑 Stay outside. Never go back inside for people, pets or belongings.
đź“ž Call 9-1-1 from a safe location once you are outside.

This applies at home, at work, at school and in public buildings. When an alarm sounds, evacuate the building and remain outside until you are told it is safe to return.
Teach children what an alarm sounds like and what that sound means: get outside and stay outside.

An alarm is designed to get your attention. Never get comfortable ignoring it.

EVERY SECOND COUNTS.

When a fire happens, there may only be minutes—or even seconds—to get everyone safely outside. Having a home escape plan means your family knows what to do before an emergency happens.

Make sure children know the plan too—and practice it so everyone can get out quickly, even if the lights are off or conditions are difficult.

A few minutes of planning today can make a big difference when every second counts.

Safe charging is a superpower!

Deputy Chief Horsfield had the pleasure of teaching students in Grades 3–7 at Windrem Elementary School for Fire Prevention Week!

This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” reminds us that everyday habits can help prevent fires involving the rechargeable batteries in our phones, tablets, toys and other devices.

Here are a few safety power moves families can practise at home:
⚡ Use the correct, manufacturer-approved charger.
⚡ Charge on a hard surface—keep devices off beds, pillows and couches.
⚡ Unplug devices when fully charged.

Thank you to Windrem Elementary’s staff and students for welcoming me and making time for fire safety education. Keep sharing those safety lessons at home! 🚒

What a great weekend at Harvest Fest!

Members of the Chetwynd Fire Department participated in the half marathon as the event’s only relay team.

We also had a fantastic turnout for our auto-extrication demonstration. It was great working alongside BC Emergency Health Services. We’re grateful for your partnership and for the opportunity to serve our community together.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to watch and support our members, to Peacefm/Chettv for the great photos, and to the Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce for organizing another excellent Harvest Fest! 🍂

A special thank you to Firefighter Huhn for volunteering as our live patient during the demonstration!

A huge thank you to Roberts Towing and Recovery for supporting today’s auto-extrication demonstration!

We couldn’t have done it without them. Roberts Towing continues to be one of our strongest supporters when it comes to auto-extrication and firefighter training—and we cannot thank them enough.

Their ongoing support helps make our training possible and our department stronger. We are better because of them!
