Message From District Director Lianne Krane
A warm welcome to the newest members of our District Board: Elsie Eubank, Dave Collins, and Tom Wenzel. We are delighted to have you join our continuing board members—Susan MacMillan, Bob Heil, Janet Lala, Liz Chapple, and myself. Our experience and dedication provide a strong foundation for our work. Together, this team offers a valuable blend of fresh perspective and steady leadership.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Marie Decker. Her many years of service at the District level, from Secretary to ADD, have been truly inspiring. Marie’s dedication, knowledge, and unfailing willingness to support others have made a lasting impact on societies throughout our District, and they are deeply grateful to her.
Marie’s passion for the Flower Show world will continue to be vibrant and thriving. Because of individuals like Marie, these events continue to bring joy not only to those who participate, but also to all who come to appreciate the beauty and creativity on display. Our District thanks you so much.
We also had to say goodbye to Martine Emery-Kelman and Christine Scheewe and want to thank them for their dedication to the District and look forward to seeing them during Society events.
I would also like to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who attended the AGM in Paris and helped make the day such an enjoyable and resounding success. Your enthusiasm, participation, and support made the event truly memorable.
A special thank you goes to the Paris Horticultural Society and its dedicated team of volunteers and leaders. Your hard work, organization, and warm hospitality did not go unnoticed and was greatly appreciated by all who attended.
We are also pleased to continue offering several incentives and forms of support for our societies. These include:
• Two free tickets to the Fall Brunch for the societies with the highest attendance at the Annual Meeting
• A $100 award for the greatest increase in membership over the past year
• The $500 Rejuvenation Grant
In 2026, there were unfortunately no nominations from District 6 for an OHA Award. We are determined to change that for 2027. To encourage broader participation, we are renewing our commitment to recognizing the outstanding contributions within our societies by supporting submissions for OHA Awards.
Our goal is for every society to submit at least one nomination—more would be even better. Please connect with your Assistant District Directors (ADDs), who can help guide you through the nomination process. If you already have someone in mind, please bring their name forward. There is no need to wait until the 2027 submission deadline; let’s begin preparing now so we can fully celebrate these contributions.
All District 6 OHA Award nominations submitted for 2027 will be entered into a District draw to be held at next year’s AGM for two tickets to the Fall Brunch. Other details to follow.
We hope this initiative encourages every society to share its successes, ideas, and experiences, while celebrating the vibrant work taking place throughout our District. Wishing you all a wonderful summer and happy gardening.

Thank you so much for this crew! 3 yards of heavy wet mulch was spread, and some bindweed removed out of the grasses. Perfect day, cool and overcast so not too hot. Riverwalk was prettied up.

Plea for help, Monday morning at Riverwalk, (Scotia bank parquet) we will be spreading 3 yards of mulch and more bodies makes the work doable, only 2 hrs, 10-12, I will have some buckets and wheelbarrows but you are welcome to bring more, we need bodies to help, our core group of helpers are 70ish, we keep going but with yards of mulch we need help. All hands welcome.

Careful in your gardens, I was weeding in a garden, it was clear last week, but this week it had Broadleaf Helleborine, but worse it had wild Parsnip, which can cause physical damage for years if you get the sap on you. This bed has never had either and I saw it on the walkway and by a bench, a worker came by and I pointed them out as he was going to mow and weedwack which will spray him with the sap. Just a kid but I asked him to let his bosses know.
