At Fur-Ever Able Dog Rescue and Rehab, we love puppies — but we also see what happens when there are more puppies than there are homes for them.

Spaying and neutering is one of the simplest ways to prevent unwanted litters. One litter can mean several puppies all needing homes at once, and those puppies can reproduce within their first year, so the numbers grow fast.

It’s not just about population, either. Spaying can prevent serious uterine infections and reduce the risk of some cancers, and neutering can reduce roaming, marking, and the urge to escape to find a mate. The best age and timing can vary by breed and size, so it’s always worth talking to your vet about what’s right for your dog.

Cost shouldn’t be the reason a pet doesn’t get fixed.

If you’re in the Kitchener area, check out East Village Animal Hospital (EVAH). They provide low-cost spay/neuter and preventative care for pets of low-income families and people on social assistance, as well as rescue groups.

💙 Chase wants to say thank you! 💙

Thanks to everyone who has donated over the past few weeks and yesterday, we’ve raised $1,000 altogether toward Chase’s vet bill. We’re so grateful for every contribution and for everyone cheering him on.

We still have a long way to go, but we went ahead with Chase’s surgery. Ashley will put the remaining cost on her Visa for now. Every puppy we take into our care deserves the surgery and treatment they need, and we believe Chase is worth it.

We trust the team caring for him—from the front desk and veterinary assistants to the technicians and veterinarians. Sometimes it isn’t about finding the lowest price; it’s about knowing the dogs in our care are receiving excellent treatment and making the best decisions we can for them as a rescue.

🚨 CHASE’S SURGERY IS TOMORROW, AND WE’RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME 🚨

Yesterday, we raised just $70 toward Chase’s surgery. We’re so grateful for every donation, but we still need more help before he heads in tomorrow for his leg amputation and neuter.

Chase’s deformed leg has been painful and difficult for him. Removing the stump will give him the chance to heal and live a happy, comfortable life as a tripod. We believe this is the best way to prevent more pain and complications.

🚨🐾 CHASE NEEDS US — HIS SURGERY IS WEDNESDAY! 🐾🚨

Now that we’ve got the bills paid down, it’s time to rally together for Chase. He has just two days before his big day: a leg amputation and neuter. We’re hoping to raise the funds to give him the chance to feel so much better.

Chase’s leg deformity is very hard on him. We’ve cared for a pup with a similar condition and tried both a prosthetic and letting him live with the stump. Eventually, the bone broke through, causing pain. We don’t want Chase to go through that. We’ve made the difficult decision to remove the leg, and we believe he can have a happy, full life as a tripod dog.

The high-end estimate for his surgery is just over $3,200. If even a portion of our 8,000+ followers could give $5, it would make a huge difference. If everyone who follows us gave $5, that would be $40,000—enough to help with Chase’s surgery and support the next pup who needs us.

Freya is such a special puppy, and we love her so much. This week, we received some devastating news about her hydrocephalus. We’ve faced this diagnosis before with two other puppies, and sadly, we had to say goodbye to them. We know how serious this can be, but we’re taking things one step at a time and working closely with Freya’s vet. She has started medication, and we don’t yet know what the outcome will be.

Freya’s foster has been seeing frequent episodes where she becomes unsteady, loses her balance, or seems disconnected from what’s happening around her. She also has a compulsive need to bite sometimes people, objects, the floor, or even herself. These moments can be difficult and frightening, and we’re still trying to understand what she’s experiencing and what may be contributing to it. Her foster is helping keep her safe with a steady routine, including scheduled crate naps, where Freya is able to settle.

There is so much joy in Freya, too. She loves people and attention, playtime, food, chew bones, and digging and running at the beach. She’s a smart girl who learned “paw” in one session, and she enjoys being around her foster family. She may be cautious when she first meets someone, but it doesn’t take long for her to warm up and ask for belly rubs.

We wish we could tell you exactly what the future holds for Freya. For now, she is loved, cared for, and surrounded by people who are doing everything they can to understand her needs and help her feel safe. We’ll keep working with her veterinary team and share updates as we know more. Please keep this sweet girl and her devoted foster in your thoughts. 💜
