We are deeply saddened to learn that Gerry Juzenas passed away last week.

Gerry was an extremely passionate self-advocate who spent many years working to advance the rights of people with disabilities. He was a longtime Kudoz and Curiko community member and his presence made a meaningful difference to so many people.

Gerry regularly hosted “Chat with a Self-Advocate”, where he shared his own story of learning how to advocate for himself and others while encouraging everyone around him to become advocates too.

He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and his willingness to dive in and participate encouraged others to do the same. He also loved music, good conversation and storytelling which made him the absolute life of the party!

We will remember Gerry for his passion, generosity, advocacy, warmth and lasting impact on the community. ❤️

🌲 Join Little Nomad Adventures for a group hike to Lynn Canyon Loop tomorrow! Co-hosted by Rodrigo and Sarah K.

You'll meet downtown and transit together to Lynn Canyon, then enjoy a 5 km hike taking around 1.5–2 hours. The trail is mostly flat, with varied terrain—perfect for getting outdoors and meeting some fellow adventurers!

Do you want to host your own community gathering? ✨

To mark the close of this chapter of Curiko and kickstart this community's next chapter, we're offering $250 small grants.

Applications are now open! Deadline to submit: Tuesday, July 21.

This is an opportunity to dream up and host your own community gathering. Any community member with a desire and a commitment to warmly welcome fellow community members can apply.

All applications that meet the criteria will go into a lottery draw and winners will be announced on July 22.

Application Criteria:

✅Anyone can apply. You can apply individually, in pairs, or groups.
✅One application per individual, pair, or group. If you have multiple ideas, you can apply with different groups of people!
✅You’re applying to organize a gathering around a particular topic, theme, or activity.
✅Your gathering must be open and shared with the Curiko alumni community.
✅You can spend your $250 on anything that supports your activity. Just nothing illegal.
✅Gatherings need to happen by Nov 30, 2026.
✅If your name is drawn, we ask you attend a virtual or in-person info session in August or September to distribute the money and help you plan.

Let's explore the textures of downtown! 🍃🧱🎨

Join Fleur and Kristin for a creative adventure through Gastown as we uncover the patterns and textures hidden in plain sight. We'll make imprints from trees, brick walls, sidewalks, historic buildings, and whatever other interesting surfaces we discover along the way.

Using clay/playdoh, paper and ink, you'll create your own collection of unique texture prints. No experience needed & materials provided.
