Our Medicine Hat office recently hosted a Finances for Newcomers session for Temporary Foreign Workers.

Delivered in English with Thai interpretation, both in person and online, the session was designed to support Thai migrant workers in navigating and managing their finances in Canada.

A big thank you to Matias Pazuengo from World Financial Group (WFG) for partnering with us to provide valuable guidance and insights.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the entire Temporary Foreign Workers team in Brooks & County Immigration Services - BCIS, and Calgary Catholic Immigration Society for making sessions like this possible and continuing to support our communities.

You could feel it right away. It was going to be a good morning in Brooks!

Despite the chilly morning, the energy was warm and welcoming as we hosted our annual Rodeo Breakfast once again, now a tradition going strong for five years.

It’s always amazing to see our community come together like this, sharing food, conversations, and a bit of that Rodeo spirit.

We were especially honoured to have Mayor of the City of Brooks, Norman Gerestein, join us for this special tradition, alongside our CEO Gordana Radan and Director of Community Development and Integration Services Ricardo Morales, who were right there with our team helping bring it all together.

The morning was filled with fluffy pancakes, sizzling sausages, fresh watermelon, juice, and hot coffee, the perfect way to kick off Rodeo Days.

A big thank you to our generous sponsors, McDonald's Canada, Tim Hortons, and Heritage Inn Hotels Brooks, for their continued support, and to our incredible BCIS team and dedicated volunteers for making this event happen year after year.

During the past week, something as simple as groceries wasn’t so simple.

A group of seasonal workers in Medicine Hat, recently arrived from Guatemala and Mexico, found themselves in a tough spot when weather delays slowed down work in the fields.

Our Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW) team stepped in. Harry and Suphisara connected with the Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub in Medicine Hat to help ensure immediate food support was available while things got moving again.

Our TFW team in Medicine Hat continues to do an incredible job showing up when it matters most and working closely with community partners to respond quickly.

It’s one of those moments that doesn’t always get seen, but matters a lot when you’re new, far from home, and figuring things out. 💛

📢Tomorrow!

⚠️Newcomer Mental Health: What Happens When Men Don’t Talk?

He says “I’m fine.”

But what does that really mean? 💡

During Mental Health Awareness Month, and under this year’s theme “Come Together, Canada,” we’re creating space for an important and often difficult conversation — the mental health of newcomer men.

Many carry the quiet weight of expectations: to provide, to adapt, to stay strong. But what happens when those pressures go unspoken?

Join us for a live conversation featuring:
🟢Afraa Akasha (Calgary) – Registered Psychologist, Centre for Refugee Resilience, Calgary Catholic Immigration Society
🟢Shibu Angadiyath (Medicine Hat) – Mental Health Therapist, Recovery Alberta.

Together, we’ll explore:
🗣️Silence, stigma, and identity
🗣️The realities of urban vs. rural support
🗣️What “coping” can look like beneath the surface
🗣️And how we can begin to shift the conversation

📅 Wednesday, May 27, 2026 | 12:00 PM (MT) | Live on LinkedIn

📲👀To view the live talk, you can visit CCIS’s LinkedIn page at 12:00 PM on May 27.
Go to the LinkedIn website or app, search Calgary Catholic Immigration Society, click View Page, then select Posts — the live talk will appear on the page feed.
For Facebook, visit the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society page, where the live talk will be streaming directly on the feed.

This conversation is for anyone who wants to better understand, support, or reflect.

Because sometimes, starting the conversation is the most powerful first step.
