What a fantastic Seniors Day! 🌟

Today, seniors from across our community came together for a day of connection, creativity, and fun through the New Horizons for Seniors Program.

One of the highlights was a clay workshop led by Marisol Duven, where participants got hands-on, explored their creativity, and shared plenty of laughs along the way.

We're proud to have hosted such a successful event and to see so many seniors enjoying the opportunity to connect with one another. Events like these help strengthen community bonds and create meaningful experiences that bring people together.

A special acknowledgment goes to Sherissa Celis, our Seniors Program Manager, and Carla Ringrose, The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) Coordinator, whose dedication and hard work helped make the day possible.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event such a memorable one. We can't wait to do it again!

Tomorrow marks Emancipation Day in Canada. ⛓️‍💥

Observed annually on August 1, Emancipation Day commemorates the day the Slavery Abolition Act came into effect across the British Empire in 1834, marking a significant moment in history and recognizing the history and legacy of slavery in Canada.

This day offers an opportunity to learn about the experiences of Black Canadians, reflect on the lasting impacts of slavery, and recognize the many contributions Black communities have made and continue to make to our country.

At CCIS, we join communities across Canada in recognizing this important day and celebrating the diversity that strengthens our society.

Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for large parts of Alberta, with temperatures climbing to 30°C and above.

At CCIS, we care about the wellbeing of our community. Please take steps to stay safe and look out for one another:

☀️ Heat Safety Tips:
• Schedule outdoor activities during cooler morning or evening hours
• Rest in air-conditioned, shaded, or cool indoor spaces
• Stay hydrated by drinking water regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing and a hat to protect yourself from the sun
• Apply sunscreen and use insect repellent when spending time outdoors
• Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles
• Check in on seniors, children, and vulnerable neighbours

🚨 Know the signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke: Dizziness, confusion, headache, nausea, lack of sweat, fainting, or unconsciousness.

Let's help keep our community safe, healthy, and cool during this hot weather. 💛

Yesterday, our BCIS team had the opportunity to volunteer for Tim Hortons Camp Day, helping to sell Camp Day bracelets and raffle tickets in support of Tim Hortons Foundation Camps.

It was a wonderful day spent connecting with community members and supporting a meaningful cause that helps youth from underserved communities build confidence, develop leadership skills, and reach their full potential.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, purchased a bracelet or raffle ticket, and helped make Camp Day a success. Together, we're helping create brighter futures for young people and strengthening our community.
