Most fatal fires occur at night when everyone is asleep. Working smoke alarms save lives! Test your smoke alarms monthly, replace expired alarms, and make sure they are installed according to manufacturers' instructions.

Install them on every storey and outside every sleeping area!

Many thanks to Community Safety Net for creating fire safety activity books to be distributed to schools in our community. These books are filled with tips, activities, and information to help children ages 5–7 and 7–9 learn about fire safety. A huge thank you also goes out to the businesses in our community—our partners in safety—who sponsored creation of the books!

In 2017, Canada designated the second Sunday in September as Firefighters' National Memorial Day, a day to remember firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty. Municipal flags will be lowered to half mast for Sunday, September 13th as a show of remembrance and to remember the courage, selflessness, and sacrifice our firefighters make in keeping our communities safe.

The Huron County Fire Chiefs have announced that any Fire Bans that were in place due to the wildfire smoke and poor air quality are officially lifted on July 21st.

With the recent rainfall and improved conditions across the county, outdoor burning can now safely resume in accordance with municipal by-laws and any required permits.

Residents are reminded to continue using caution and to follow safe practices when burning:
• Never leave a fire unattended
• Keep water or firefighting equipment on site
• Ensure fires are fully extinguished before leaving
• Follow municipal regulations and obtain permits where required

The Huron County Fire Chiefs thank all residents for their patience, cooperation, and understanding while restrictions were in place. Together, we can continue to keep our communities safe.
