πŸ€ πŸ“ Meet Sundance Kid: self-appointed protector of the flock

Hi, I'm Sundance Kid.

My buddy Butch Cassidy and I didn't exactly plan on becoming farm animals. We just sort of came with the package.

Some backyard chicken farmers ordered a batch of chicks and, surprise, two of us grew up to be roosters.

Nobody saw that coming.

Especially not the neighbours. 😬

Turns out, crowing doesn't go over particularly well in the city.

Someone complained, Surrey bylaw officers showed up, and just like that, Butch and I had two days to find a new home.

Or else.

Thankfully, we found Kindred Farm. ❀️

Now, about my job.

I'm the protector of this flock, and I don't take that lightly.

I'm up early, keeping watch and making sure everyone's safe.

I know the volunteers who feed us and clean our space get a little nervous around me sometimes. I've been known to flap my wings and kick pretty hard when I think something's off.

I promise I'm not trying to be scary.

A guy's gotta protect his hens. πŸ’ͺπŸ“

Protecting the flock is a full-time gig, and even a tough guy like me needs backup sometimes.

Food, vet care and a safe place to sleep. That's where a sponsor comes in.

🀠❀️ Will you be Sundance Kid's backup?

And give this tough guy a share. Somewhere out there, Sundance's partner is waiting to ride into the sunset with him. πŸ“

πŸŽ‰ Juniper has a sponsor too!

Our Kindred 9 campaign had barely gotten underway when Juniper joined the SPONSORED list. ❀️ Lots of love to Marilyn who sponsored her in memory of her beloved cat, Sophie.

πŸ¦† Meet Juniper: there's always room for 1 more...or even 7

It only takes one person to change the course of an animal's life.

In this case, it took one neighbour, one phone call, and 7 very lucky ducklings.
In September 2018, we got a tip about baby ducks and chickens on a property that looked abandoned.

No food. No clean water. And a "duck pond" that was honestly more of a swamp.

So we rolled up, loaded 7 tiny babies into a crate, and brought them home to the farm. ❀️

They landed in our barn with fresh food, clean water, and a baby pool.

But they huddled together like one giant, trembling puff of fluff, far too nervous to be told apart.

At first, we worried it would be difficult to find room for them at the farm.

Then our volunteers came to the rescue.

The Waddle Inn was built! πŸ¦†πŸ

The seven ducks quickly grew, and Juniper started laying eggs. She makes a beautiful nest of straw and white feathers.

We collect her eggs every day so we don't get any more little ones.

We hope she doesn't mind. We'd love to keep that room available for more ducks in need. ❀️

Juniper was one of the first of our Kindred 9 to find a sponsor, thanks to Marilyn.

πŸ‡πŸ” Meet Little Miss Muffet: she'd choose grapes over curds and whey any day

Little Miss Muffet came to us carrying a story of love and loss.

In 2024, a woman named Val came to our farm heartbroken.

Her husband had passed away suddenly and left behind a flock of hens he'd cherished as pets.

Val couldn't bear the thought of them not receiving the same love and care he'd always given them. Caring for eleven hens on her own felt like more than she could manage.

So she found us, hoping we could carry that love forward. ❀️

We welcomed all eleven hens with open arms, Little Miss Muffet among them.

She's a Black Australorp with sleek, glossy black feathers that catch a shimmer of green in the sunlight.

In her time with us, Little Miss Muffet has become part of our family too.

Unlike her nursery rhyme namesake, this Miss Muffet isn't afraid of a little creepy-crawly. She'll happily chase down a bug or two around the yard. πŸ•·οΈ

No tuffet required.

And definitely no running from spiders.

She's curious, confident, and always delighted to find grapes in her salad lunch. πŸ‡

Now we're hoping to find someone to help cover Little Miss Muffet's food, bedding, and vet visits.

If you'd like to help carry the love that brought her to Kindred Farm forward, consider sponsoring Little Miss Muffet.

❀️ Sponsor Miss Muffet today.

🐰❀️ Meet Mystic: I almost didn't make it here

Hi, I'm Mystic.

Not long ago, Luna and I were living on the street with someone who couldn't care for us, even though I think they loved us the best they could.

We spent our days crammed inside a plastic container with no air holes, soaked in our own urine and hardly ever fed.

We were scared, sick, and running out of time.

Then a volunteer at Kindred got an urgent call.

Two young rabbits needed somewhere to go, fast.

That call saved our lives. ❀️

Luna and I are safe now.

We're warm. We're fed. And for the first time, we're not afraid.

But being safe is just the start of a good life.

Now I need hay, vet visits, and someone to make sure I never go without again.

That's what sponsorship means to me. A full belly, a clean home, and a person like you in my corner.

🐰 Will you be Mystic's sponsor?

Please share my story too. Somewhere out there is the person I've been waiting for. ❀️

πŸ” Meet P**i Long Stocking: she struts like she owns the place

Well hello there!

The name's P**i Long Stocking, and yes, I am named after that fiercely independent girl with the wild hair.

Let's be honest, my black-and-white striped feathers are basically the chicken version of mismatched socks and total confidence.

I'm a Barred Plymouth Rock hen, and I strut like I own the place.

I don't. Yet. Working on it. 😏

Life hasn't always been a barnyard party.

Two years ago, I lost my Dad, and my whole flock felt a little quieter without him around. He taught me the fine art of dust-bathing and how to give the rooster serious side-eye when he got too full of himself.

My mom did everything she could, but she knew she couldn't give me the time, space, and attention I needed to thrive.

So she reached out to Kindred Farm.

The people here welcomed me with open coops and warm hearts, and just like that, I had a new home. ❀️

I've settled in beautifully. I share a cosy henhouse with my siblings and have made all sorts of new friends, some feathered and some not.

But every chicken deserves someone in her corner.

That's where you come in.

Your sponsorship helps with my food, health checkups, and all the little comforts that make life good.

In return, you'll have a devoted, if slightly dramatic, feathered friend cheering you on from the barnyard.

πŸŽ‰πŸ° Apollo has a sponsor!

We hadn’t even started sharing all nine stories when Apollo found his human. Thank you kind friend...you know who you are!

Apparently, a soap-opera origin story and a love of romaine lettuce are pretty hard to resist. ❀️

But you still need to hear how this little guy came to be.

🐰 Meet Apollo: the bunny with a soap-opera origin story

Gather 'round, because this one's got twists. πŸ˜‚

Back in October 2025, our morning volunteer crew popped into the rabbit house for a routine cleaning and instead got a surprise.

A whole nest of baby bunnies. 😳🐰🐰🐰

Cue the confusion.

Our two Flemish Giants, Mystic and Luna, were both filed under "female."

Plot twist: Luna was, in fact, a boy.

The story took a harder turn when Mystic came down with an upper respiratory infection that spread to the babies.

Only one tiny survivor made it through. ❀️

He arrived with main-character energy, so we named him Apollo, after the Greek and Roman god of light, truth, prophecy, and healing.

No pressure, little guy.

These days, Apollo spends his time being an absolute romaine lettuce connoisseur πŸ₯¬ and sticking close to his mama, Mystic.

Basically, living his best bunny life.

Apollo was one of the first of our Kindred 9 to find a sponsor. 🐰❀️
