🌽❤️ Simple Moments, Great Joy at BLA!
With great joy and excitement, the children of Back to Life Association (BLA) enjoy preparing fresh corn by removing its husks. 🌽 This is more than just a simple activity; it is also a moment of happiness, togetherness, and childhood enjoyment.
Children naturally love fresh corn, and their excitement during these moments reminds us how much joy can be found in simple things.
Our daily feeding menu mainly consists of rice, beans, and maize paste. However, from time to time, we add variety to the children's meals with different foods and seasonal treats to make their meals more enjoyable.
At BLA, caring for children goes beyond providing daily meals. It is about creating happy memories, nurturing a sense of belonging, and making every child feel loved and valued. 💚
Sometimes, the simplest things bring the biggest smiles! 😊

💪🏋️‍♂️ Look at Chadrack now!
Chadrack was rescued from the dump when he was still very young. Today, he can carry 15 kg in total — a 10 kg dumbbell 🏋️‍♂️ and a 5 kg dumbbell 🏋️‍♂️.
These moments make us proud at Back to Life. It is encouraging to see our children growing, becoming stronger, and discovering what they are capable of. 💪
We are grateful for every step of their journey and hopeful for the bright future ahead of them. ❤️🌱

A glimpse into Our Weekends

Here, the third round of children picked from the dump, wait impatiently in line for a hot meal, something very different from the waste they regularly have to pick through to survive. (Since we feed more than 500 children, they are fed in rounds).

For many of these children, weekends are a special moment. They come from the dump, wait in queues, and receive a warm, nutritious meal.

But when the weekend is over, they return to the dump because Back to Life Association (BLA) still does not have the means to take them in and provide full-time support.

Today, 123 children are under full support, receiving more consistent care, food, education, and protection. We remain hopeful that, one day, the children still living on the dump will also have the chance to leave it permanently.

Until then, we continue doing what we can.
With supporters like you taking action, we can do more. We can reach more children. We can help more of them leave the dump behind.

🎥 Inside the Rehearsal Room 🎶
A little glimpse of our afternoon at Back to Life.
After lunch, the children spend their free time in the rehearsal room, joyfully practicing songs together. Some sing in Kirundi, while others sing in different languages—growing their talents, confidence, and love for music.
Every voice tells a story of hope and every song reminds us that these children have a bright future.

A talent beginning to emerge 🌱📻🎶

Olivier has a special talent for assembling and repairing things. In this video, he brings together different elements and creates a working radio from scratch, using his creativity, curiosity, and practical skills.
When the radio is ready and the flash drive is inserted, music starts playing—and the other children join in, dancing and celebrating with him. 🎶💃🏾🕺🏾
For children growing up around the dumpsite, talents like these can easily remain hidden beneath difficult circumstances. But when they are given attention, encouragement, and opportunities, what was buried can begin to emerge.
At Back to Life, we want to help children discover their abilities and guide them toward the areas where their talents can be developed into real skills and opportunities.

Inside BLA's Sewing Training Room

While schools are closed for the holidays, learning continues at Back to Life Association (BLA).

Instead of spending their break without purpose, children are learning practical sewing skills that can help them become self-reliant and generate income in the future. Through hands-on training, they are mastering different sewing techniques and preparing for a better tomorrow.

"I have been learning sewing. Now I know how to sew different styles, and I hope that in the future I will sew for people and be paid," says Claudine, one of the children in the sewing program.

At BLA, we believe that every skill learned today is an investment in a child's future. By equipping vulnerable children with vocational skills, we are helping them build confidence, restore hope, and create opportunities for a life beyond poverty.

This is what our weekends look like, where more than 500 children are fed, including 123 who are under our permanent support.
However, these children go back to the dump after being fed, making them difficult to supervise. At the dump, they are exposed to many harmful behaviors, including drug abuse. Some even inhale car fuel.
Arcade, the Headmaster of Heha Happy School, rebukes and encourages them to change. They were given the clothes they are wearing, but unless they are under BLA's full-time supervision, lasting behavior change remains very difficult.
