"When I arrived at the hospital, I died... When I came back to life, I found an oxygen mask on my face and blood being transfused into my body."
At only 14 years old, Alexis survived a life-threatening diabetic coma. Today, he is alive but he must inject insulin twice everyday to stay alive.
Read how Back To Life Association rescued him from the garbage dump, saved his life, and continues to stand by him every single day.

Will you please buy insulin for him? Read full story here https://backtolifeburundi.org/blog/detail/29

Inside BLA's Sewing Training Room

While schools are closed for the holidays, learning continues at Back to Life Association (BLA).

Instead of spending their break without purpose, children are learning practical sewing skills that can help them become self-reliant and generate income in the future. Through hands-on training, they are mastering different sewing techniques and preparing for a better tomorrow.

"I have been learning sewing. Now I know how to sew different styles, and I hope that in the future I will sew for people and be paid," says Claudine, one of the children in the sewing program.

At BLA, we believe that every skill learned today is an investment in a child's future. By equipping vulnerable children with vocational skills, we are helping them build confidence, restore hope, and create opportunities for a life beyond poverty.

This is what our weekends look like, where more than 500 children are fed, including 123 who are under our permanent support.
However, these children go back to the dump after being fed, making them difficult to supervise. At the dump, they are exposed to many harmful behaviors, including drug abuse. Some even inhale car fuel.
Arcade, the Headmaster of Heha Happy School, rebukes and encourages them to change. They were given the clothes they are wearing, but unless they are under BLA's full-time supervision, lasting behavior change remains very difficult.
Will you care for these children whose lives are perishing? Help us take more of them in and give them the love, protection, and hope they deserve.

🎸 Fiacre performing a solo guitar piece!

The guitar isn't an easy instrument to learn, but Fiacre keeps improving with every practice session. This is what free time looks like in the Back to Life program—where children are given the chance to discover and grow their talents.
No longer are these children known for living on the dumpsite. Today, they are learning, creating, and building a brighter future thanks to the full support they receive through Back to Life.
As we celebrate Fiacre's progress, we also remember that hundreds of vulnerable children are still waiting for the same opportunity. Together, we can help transform more lives—one child at a time. ❤️

Thanks to supporters, more than 500 have been fed. However, many of them go back to the dump to scavenge and wait for another weekend, since they are fed only on weekends. Currently, only 123 are under permanent support and fed everyday, but BLA hopes to find more supporters to take in all those kids. Thank you to everyone who is changing the lives of these little children.

🌊☀️ From the dump to the beach, God has changed their story.

Thanks to missionaries who spent six months serving in Burundi and chose to say goodbye through a special day of relaxation, the children of Back to Life enjoyed laughter, food, games, and precious moments by the sea.
Many of these children once lived on a garbage dump, where survival was their daily reality. Today, they experienced a different side of life, a reminder that they are loved, valued, and created for a bright future.

Back to Life currently provides permanent support to 123 children and feeds another 400 children every weekend who still live on the dump.

We continue to pray for more supporters to help reach these children who still survive on the dumpsite and bring them in and give them hope and a chance for a better tomorrow.

"He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; He seats them with princes."

– Psalm 113:7-8
❤️ Thank you to everyone who makes these moments possible. UNICEF Burundi KIYO Burundi Compassion International Hal Turley Don Jones
