From the rubble of their war destroyed home, sisters Tala and Farah Mousa, displaced with their family in Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, won first place in the 2026 Earth Prize across the Middle East. The global competition focuses on environmental sustainability and entrepreneurship, making their team “Building Hope” the first Palestinian team in the competition’s history to reach this global level after competing against 6,095 teams worldwide. Their idea is based on a decentralized system for recycling household debris and rubble, which now covers more than 90% of Gaza, through a simple process aimed at supporting future reconstruction efforts in the Strip.
