Het Eerste Internationaal Filmgebeuren van Gent werd opgericht in 1974 door Ben Ter Elst van Studio Skoop en Dirk De Meyer van de universitaire Filmclub. Begin jaren 80 werd de organisatie verder uitgebouwd door Jacques Dubrulle en sindsdien ontwikkelde het festival zich tot รฉรฉn van de meest prominente Europese filmevenementen. Elk jaar in oktober stelt het festival ruim 100 langspeelfilms en 30 k

ortfilms voor uit de gehele wereld. De afgelopen jaren wist het festival een publiek van ruim 100.000 toeschouwers aan te trekken.

The First International Film Event in Ghent was founded in 1974 by Ben Ter Elst of Studio Skoop and Dirk De Meyer of the university Film Club. Jacques Dubrulle further expanded the organization in the early 1980s and, since then, the festival has developed into one of the most prominent European film events. Every year in October the festival presents over 100 feature films and 30 short films from around the world. In recent years, the festival has attracted an audience of more than 100,000 spectators.

It is with sadness that we learned of the passing of French director Tony Gatlif.

In 2006, we welcomed Gatlif at Film Fest Gent. His film 'Transylvania' was selected for the Official Competition and won a Georges Delerue Award for Best Music.

Film Fest Gent verwelkomt dit jaar opnieuw Kevin Janssens! Dit keer niet alleen als acteur, maar ook als regisseur. Zijn regiedebuut 'Breendonk' is een intrigerend gevangenisdrama in het door oorlog verscheurde Antwerpen van 1942.

'Breendonk' beleeft zijn Belgische premiรจre op Film Fest Gent 2026, en zal later dit najaar te zien zijn op Streamz, VRT 1 en VRT MAX.

Kevin Janssens is joining us again this year! This time not only as an actor, but also as a director. His directorial debut, โ€˜Breendonkโ€™, is an intriguing prison drama set in war-torn Antwerp in 1942.

'Breendonk' is having its Belgian premiere at Film Fest Gent 2026, and will be available to watch on Streamz, VRT 1 and VRT MAX later this autumn.

Kleine cinefielen, grote schermervaring! ๐ŸŽฌ Film Fest Gent gaat opnieuw Kidsproof met een selectie vol magische, leerrijke en vertederende filmvertoningen, gericht op de allerjongste filmfans en hun familie.

โ€˜๐—ง๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ด ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐˜†โ€™ volgt een chaotische dag in het leven van Bianca, een eigenzinnig meisje van bijna dertien. Ze voelt zich onzichtbaar, tot haar grote idool Billie King plots in de woonkamer zit.

De elfjarige Christophe begint zomaar om te vallen, overal en altijd. De oplossing? Een orthopedisch korset. Noodgedwongen smijt โ€˜๐—œ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—•๐—ผ๐˜†โ€™ Christophe zich op zijn nieuwe passie: het kerkorgel.

Net als elk Braziliaans kind wil Gugu voetballer worden. De bijna twaalfjarige knul heeft bakken zelfvertrouwen en woont samen met zijn oma, Dilma. Wanneer de dementerende Dilma kwetsbaarder wordt, dreigt โ€˜๐—š๐˜‚๐—ด๐˜‚โ€™๐˜€ w๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—น๐—ฑโ€™ in te storten.

Het jonge nijlpaard โ€˜๐— ๐˜‚๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ผโ€™ zou graag wat groter zijn, dan zou hij zich zoveel nuttiger voelen! Wanneer Mumbo een magische paddenstoel plukt en opeet, wordt hij zo gigantisch dat hij niet eens meer in het bed van zijn mama kan slapen. Plots merkt hij dat groot zijn ook niet eenvoudig is.
