A little bit of love travelled a long way to reach Yuendumu recently.

Good friend of our team member Danny, Dave Niedorfer, recently made the drive up from South Australia to spend some more time with us in community, and this time he brought
something pretty special with him.

Dave's mum, Else Janson, is the convenor of Wrapped With Love, SA (WWL-SA), a volunteer network based at The Hut Community Centre in Aldgate, South Australia.

Each week, a group of women come together at The Hut to knit and crochet beautiful wraps, as well as sewing together squares donated by other knitters and crocheters.

WWL-SA also supports groups and individuals by receiving and distributing donated yarn and collecting completed wraps and squares.

And on Dave's latest trip north, some of that handiwork made it all the way to Yuendumu.

The wraps were gifted to some of our local Elders and were very gratefully received.

Every one represents hours of someone's time, skill and care made by hand in South Australia, before travelling all the way up to Warlpiri Country.

A huge thank you to Else, the women who regularly meet at The Hut and everyone who contributed to creating these beautiful gifts for us on community, and to Dave for making
sure they made it safely to us.

There's something pretty special about people using their creativity to show care for people they've never even met.

๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๐Ÿ’›โค
Meet Narli, one of our newest members here at S.T.K.I.C. Narli is a Kaurna, Nharangga and Ngarrindjeri woman from South Australia who has been working in remote communities since 2009.

Her work has taken her to Angurugu on Groote Eylandt and Wurrumiyanga on the Tiwi Islands, where she managed youth programs with the Australian Red Cross, as well as communities throughout the West MacDonnell Ranges.

Weโ€™re so happy to have her and her experience here on the team at S.T.K.I.C. as Narli takes up her new role with the Mampu-Maninjaku Youth Diversion Program, providing therapeutic support to children and young people on community.

For Narli, an important part of her work is making sure young people have space to speak and feel understood.

She's passionate about helping young people identify their goals and dreams, work out the steps that can help them get there, and build skills to move through the big feelings and big moments that can come along the way.

Since arriving in Yuendumu, Narli says she's particularly enjoyed getting to know people, learning about Country and understanding more about people's connection to Country.

And there's something else she wants community to know:

She's approachable, non-judgmental, and she believes strongly in people working together and sharing resources wherever possible.

Narli brings years of experience working alongside young people in remote communities, along with study and training across Indigenous Community Management and Development, Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Child Play Therapy.

We're really happy to have you here, Narli. Welcome to Yuendumu and the S.T.K.I.C. team.

๐Ÿ’ฌ A story can travel quickly around a small community like ours.

๐Ÿ‘‚๐ŸฟSomeone hears something.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธThey tell another person.

โžก๏ธDetails can change along the way, more people become involved, and before long, something that may not even be true can start causing real hurt and conflict amongst us.

At Southern Tanami Kurdiji Indigenous Corporation, we know how important communication is for keeping things calm and helping people work through problems.

โžก๏ธBefore passing something on, ask yourself:

โ“Do I know this story is true?

โ“Is this my story to tell?

โ“Could the person telling me have an ulterior motive?

โ“Could sharing this story Iโ€™ve heard make things worse?

๐Ÿ–๐ŸฟSometimes the strongest thing you can do is simply let the story stop with you.

And if there is a genuine problem or conflict, talking directly with the right people or asking for support from us can help stop things from getting bigger.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Words have consequences. Let's use them to make things better, not harder for our community.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ If you agree that words have consequences for our community:

From 1 September 2026, mutual obligations for participants in the Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES) will recommence.

Participants will need to work with their provider to create a job plan, attend monthly appointments, look for work where appropriate, and accept suitable paid employment. It also notes that income support payments may be paused if these obligations are not met. The provider listed for Yuendumu and Willowra is Southern Tanami Kurdiji Indigenous Corporation

If you have any questions or need support understanding these changes, please speak with our RAES team as soon as possible. We're here to work alongside you and help you stay connected with your obligations and employment goals.

โšฝ Cops vs Kids Soccer Match โšฝ

What a deadly afternoon at the PAW Media yard when the local police officers took on the kids in a friendly game of soccer, organised by WANTA.

It was great to see so many young people coming together, getting active, having fun and showing off their soccer skills. The kids gave it everything they had, with plenty of energy, determination and some impressive plays throughout the game.

The cops might have come away with the win this time ๐Ÿ†, but the real winners were everyone who got involved and enjoyed an afternoon of sport, laughter and positive community connection.

A big thank you to WANTA for organising the event and to everyone who came down to support, cheer on the players and make it such a great afternoon. We look forward to seeing more community events like this bringing people together. ๐Ÿ’™โšฝ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐ŸŒฑ The Yapa Crew Have Been Busy! ๐ŸŒฑ
Our Yapa Crew have rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into a special projectโ€”cleaning up the old Mount Theo shed as it begins its transformation into the new Kulcha Workshop. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธโœจ

The team has been working hard clearing out the space, cleaning up around the shed, and helping prepare the area for its exciting new purpose. This project is about more than just a buildingโ€”it's about creating a space where culture, creativity, learning, and community can come together.

We're excited to see this vision take shape, and the Yapa Crew are proud to be part of bringing it to life. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ‘€ Keep an eye on our page as we share updates on the progress and reveal what's coming next for the new Kulcha Workshop!

We are incredibly proud to have attended and supported the Menโ€™s Behaviour Change Program delivered by Cross Boards in Yuendumu

The men spoke highly of the program, sharing how valuable it has been to participate in a safe, respectful, and Aboriginal-grounded space. Many expressed that programs like this are needed in our communities and would like to see them continue and run more often.

The program provides men with a safer pathway to reflect, learn, and make positive changes, while complementing the goals of other support programs. It creates opportunities for stronger relationships, healthier families, and safer communities.

We are proud to be part of this work and value the strong partnership with Cross Boards. Together, we can continue supporting men to grow, heal, and strengthen themselves, their families, and their communities.

๐ŸŒŸ A Proud Day for Yuendumu! ๐ŸŒŸ
A huge congratulations to our three community members Warwick, Louanna and
Louis! ๐ŸŽ‰
From being amazing and dedicated Community Safety Patrollers serving the people
of Yuendumu to now becoming Aboriginal Liaison Officers (ALOs) with the Northern
Territory Police, your journey is one to be incredibly proud of.
After recently attending ALO Training at the NT Police College in Darwin, all three
successfully completed the course and are now officially Aboriginal Liaison Officers.
This achievement is a testament to your hard work, commitment and passion for
supporting your community.
You have already made a significant difference through your work with the Community
Safety Patrol, and we know you will continue to build strong relationships, support local
families and help create safer communities in your new roles with NT Police.
Your success is an inspiration to our young people and demonstrates that dedication,
perseverance and community leadership can open incredible opportunities.
Please join us in celebrating this fantastic milestone and wishing Warwick, Louanna
and Louis every success in this exciting new chapter.
Well done and congratulations โ€”we are so proud of you all! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ–คโค๐Ÿ’›
