Our annual performance at Old Government House comes with one very important tradition: gathering our beautiful audience for a group photo! 🌟

Back in August, our Morning Musicking concert was a whole lot of fun — historical instruments, historical music, and a rather lovely crowd to share it all with. We love making music for you… and clearly, we love photographing you afterwards too! 🎶

Details about our November concert are coming soon...

We love this photo of Matthew Ventura arriving for our concert at Old Government House last weekend!

Matthew brought his brilliant musicianship to some fabulous baroque bassoon and recorder playing.

If you look closely, you can see how he carries his spare reeds! Can you spot one? 🔎

A beautiful moment captured from above at Old Government House, Brisbane, as Emily (baroque violin), Shaun (classical oboe) and Raja (baroque cello) performed Weigl’s Trio No. 3 in B♭ major.

There’s so much history in this room, and some beautiful newer touches too. The spectacular chandelier, "Inflorescence", was designed in 2009 and inspired by the branching forms of Queensland’s subtropical flora.

Beneath it is the Hall’s enormous bespoke "Tree of Life" carpet, featuring gum trees, grevillea and lilly pilly, with eleven Torresian crows hidden amongst the branches.

It was a rather wonderful setting for our baroque and classical music, surrounded by layers of Queensland history, beneath a glorious chandelier, and on a carpet full of its own stories. 🎻🌿

Not one… but TWO broken gut strings during today’s performance! 🎻😱

Here we see our violinists Allison and Andrea frantically restringing Emily’s baroque violin while Emily finishes playing the Weigl on Andrea’s instrument.

Teamwork! 🎶💪

Our upcoming concert, "Out of the Shadows", is all about bringing lesser-known composers back into the light.

This week in rehearsal: Johann Christoph Pepusch — a contemporary of Handel in London, whose music deserves to be heard far more often.

Raja, Jane and Shaun are sounding wonderful as they bring this trio sonata for recorder, oboe and continuo to life.
