The SCHADS Award changes are a significant and positive step towards recognising the value of care and support work.

Community organisations deliver essential services on behalf of governments for Queenslanders every day. To ensure these services remain sustainable and accessible, funding the cost of service delivery is a must.

QCOSS joins ACOSS in welcoming additional funding to support the increased wages for our sector. We are calling on the Queensland Government to work alongside the Commonwealth and invest in the transition.

Without adequate funding from all levels of government, many organisations will face growing financial pressure at a time when demand for services continues to increase.

We join with ACOSS and our colleagues across the country in recognising this important first step and calling for a coordinated national response that ensures no community organisation is left behind.

When children have the essentials they need, families and communities thrive too. That's the future the Raising Queensland campaign is working towards.

Today at Parliament House, QCOSS joined co-hosts Anglicare Southern Queensland and Mission Australia to mark Anti-Poverty Week and continue our united call for a Queensland where every child can thrive.

We engaged with dozens of Queensland MPs to reinforce the call for a whole-of-government Families Strategy.

The event brought together community sector leaders, advocates, researchers and service providers to share insights, highlight solutions and explore how we can create a fairer Queensland where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

At the heart of Raising Queensland is a simple belief: every child deserves the essentials they need to thrive. Housing, healthcare, education and opportunity should be within reach for every Queensland family.

Thank you to everyone who attended, shared their stories, and helped strengthen the call for change.

Nearly two in five children in sole-parent families are living in poverty. Let that sink in.

This Anti-Poverty Week, new research from Australian Council of Social Service and UNSW shows this confronting reality. That’s 37 per cent of children growing up without the resources they need to grow up happy, healthy and safe.

Poverty isn't just about income. Not having access to the basics affects a child’s health, education, housing stability, and wellbeing, often from their earliest years.

That's why the Raising Queensland campaign is calling for action, including:
✅ A whole-of-government Families Strategy
✅ More safe and secure housing for families
✅ Income support payments above the poverty line
✅ Investment in community services that help families thrive

Today is World Mental Health Day.

In our Raising Queensland report, one-third of young people in Queensland told us that mental health is their biggest personal challenge, yet many struggle to access the support they need.

Children's mental health doesn't exist in isolation. It's shaped by whether families have a safe place to live, access to healthcare, opportunities to learn and strong support around them.

This World Mental Health Day, we're highlighting the need for earlier support and better access to mental health services for Queensland children, young people and families.

As we mark Sexual Violence Awareness Month this October, we recognise the importance of raising awareness about sexual violence, supporting victim-survivors, and working together to prevent violence before it happens.

This year’s theme,“No More Silence, Prevent Sexual Violence,” is a call for all Queenslanders to ensure victim-survivors are heard, believed, and supported, while challenging the attitudes and behaviours that allow sexual violence to occur.

QCOSS is proud to stand with our member Queensland Sexual Assault Network and the many organisations across Queensland working every day to support victim-survivors and prevent sexual violence.

That's why programs like Get Set For Work by yourtown Australia and IFYS are so important.
