Toowoomba RSL Sub-Branch is proud to share this video featuring our Vice President and Cadet Liaison Officer, Nicholas Dudley, speaking about the importance of ANZAC Day and the continuing responsibility we all have to remember.

ANZAC Day is not only a day of commemoration, but a day to reflect on courage, service, sacrifice, mateship, and the legacy left to us by those who served before us.

We thank Toowoomba Region for helping share this important message with our community, and we acknowledge all veterans, current serving personnel, families, cadets, volunteers, and community members who continue to keep the ANZAC spirit alive.

Lest We Forget.

We are proud to see our President representing the Sub-Branch so well in the community.

Students from Bunkers Hill State School have been getting creative to keep the ANZAC spirit alive, writing postcards for the RSL to honour our servicemen and women. It was wonderful for them to also hear from a long-serving veteran about why remembrance is so important and why we continue to honour those who have served our nation.

Thank you to Bunkers Hill State School for helping keep the ANZAC spirit alive in the next generation. Lest We Forget.

The Toowoomba RSL Sub-Branch is proud to share this generous gesture of support for our veteran and Defence community.

Today, we proudly recognise 105 years of service by the Royal Australian Air Force.

Since 31 March 1921, generations of Air Force personnel have served Australia with courage, professionalism and dedication. We honour all those who have worn the uniform, past and present, and we also acknowledge the families and loved ones who have supported them along the way.

Happy 105th Birthday to the Royal Australian Air Force.

The voices of the veteran, Defence, and wider Toowoomba community are being heard.

A Senate Inquiry has been announced into the Government’s plan to divest 67 Defence estate sites.

The Senate Inquiry into the management of Defence estate assets is now underway, and the Toowoomba RSL Sub-Branch has been actively raising concerns about the future of Toowoomba’s historic Drill Hall and the broader Milne Bay Training Depot.

Thank you to everyone who has already signed our petition and shown support for protecting this important part of Toowoomba’s military history.

While the Inquiry is now underway, the work is far from over.

We are now in a critical phase of preparing our submissions, continuing community advocacy, and engaging directly with decision-makers to make sure the significance of this site is properly recognized.

The Toowoomba RSL is calling for:
▪ proper consultation with the community
▪ recognition of the site’s military and historical significance
▪ recognition of the heritage significance of the historic Drill Hall
▪ proper recognition of the site’s connection to Toowoomba’s military history and regimental heritage
▪ full consideration of its value to veterans, cadets, and Defence families
▪ proper recognition of the site’s continuing role in supporting cadet activity
▪ proper recognition of the role of the Toowoomba Defence Families Support Association and its long-standing presence at the site
▪ transparency about any future plans for the site
▪ no final decision until all heritage, community, and Defence-family impacts have been properly assessed
▪ genuine consideration of alternatives that preserve the site’s ongoing community value and keep it in public, community, veteran, or cadet use

If you have not yet signed our petition, please do so and help strengthen the community’s voice.

Why does this matter so much?

Because Toowoomba’s historic Drill Hall and Milne Bay Training Depot are not just old buildings or surplus land.

They are part of our city’s military story. They represent service, tradition and remembrance. They continue to hold meaning for veterans, cadets, families and the wider community.

Places like this help keep our history visible and alive. Once they are lost, that connection cannot easily be replaced.

That is why we are asking the community to stand with us.

Please sign and share our petition.

The historic Drill Hall and Milne Bay Training Depot are not just part of Toowoomba’s past. They are still part of its present.

This site continues to serve as a local home for cadet activity and remains an important link between military history, youth development, veterans and the wider community.

That is why this matters so much.
Once places like this are lost, the history, identity and community connection they represent cannot simply be replaced.

The Toowoomba RSL will continue to advocate for proper consultation, transparency and serious consideration of options that protect this important site and its ongoing value to our city.

If you have not already done so, please sign and share our petition:
