At the end of the day, we all live .
And yet for many newly arrived refugee families in Toowoomba, the journey to feeling safe, connected, and at home is only just beginning.

That’s why You Belong has launched the EOFY giving campaign — to help ensure Waymakers in our community have the support they need to integrate, grow, and thrive.

Every day we see the impact of what community can do:
☀️ English classes building confidence and connection
☀️ Driving lessons creating independence and opportunity
☀️ Welcome bags helping families settle into a new home
☀️ Community gatherings reminding people they truly belong

But none of this happens without people choosing generosity.

This EOFY, your support can make a tangible difference:

💛 $50 can help provide petrol for transport to programs and appointments
💛 $250 can support a Waymaker and their children through 10 weeks of English classes
💛 $500 can help provide welcome bags and practical support for more than 12 families settling into their new homes

Every donation — big or small — helps create a more connected, compassionate, and welcoming Australia.

If you believe everyone deserves the opportunity to belong, we’d love your support.

Please consider giving, sharing, and helping us spread the word .

We need your help to raise $20k so we can keep supporting the Waymaker community in Toowoomba!

The campaign is raising much-needed funds to continue our work to offer newly arrived refugees a sense of community, opportunity, and connection to ensure they integrate, grow, and thrive in our home of Toowoomba.

We’re looking for donations, big or small, to help us continue delivering our proven and vital work.

$50 can help provide petrol for our vehicle to transport Waymakers to and from our programs
$250 can support a Waymaker and their children through 10 weeks of English classes
$500 can support 12+ families with a “welcome bag” when they settle into their new home with the support of our volunteers

From a refugee tent in Iraq to the front page of The Chronicle — Hoshmin’s story is one of extraordinary courage. 💛

After fleeing ISIS persecution as a Yazidi woman, Hoshmin Haso spent years hiding her identity, raising her children alone in a cramped tent, and surviving the unimaginable — all to keep her family safe.

Today, she’s home in Toowoomba. Her children are in school. Her husband is by her side. And she’s learning English through You Belong — finding community, connection, and belonging in the Garden City. 🌸

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate Hoshmin and every mother who has sacrificed everything for the ones they love.

“I am proud of myself because I live with my children and do not have any problems with my family.” — Hoshmin Haso

Today we had the privilege of hosting student leaders from , led by Principal Clint Curran, for a special visit to You Belong’s programs in the Toowoomba community. ❤️

Students joined our English classes at Glenvale State School, visited with newly arrived families in their homes, exchanged gifts and welcome bags, and experienced firsthand the power of community, hospitality and belonging.

As always, we were deeply inspired by the resilience, courage and generosity of the women in our English program. Despite all they have journeyed through, they continue to welcome others with such warmth, joy and hope.

It was also wonderful to have the Toowoomba Chronicle visit to interview one of our program participants for a special Mother’s Day feature running this weekend.

Days like today are such an important reminder of the incredible volunteers, staff and community members who quietly make a huge difference every single week.

Thank you to Miami SHS for making the journey to Toowoomba. This visit was the continuation of a long learning journey together around the refugee experience, inclusion and community — and today was a beautiful opportunity to bring that learning to life.

Always good catching up with , even better doing it with his wider crew around him.

Spent some time with his manager Chris Orr and GM Carley Maher outside Suns HQ chatting about how we can team up, have some fun, and do something meaningful along the way.

Feels like the start of something special towards creating a world where everyone belongs!

Term 2 is officially underway… and what a start it’s been.

Across Toowoomba, our programs that will be back in action are our English Classes, our Road Safety Program, and of course Cook to Connect bringing people together around the table.

Here’s a little glimpse from today’s Cook to Connect session — full of flavour, laughter, and new friendships forming.

A big welcome to all our new participants and volunteers stepping into the journey this term. It’s always something special to see community come alive in these spaces.

If you’re in Toowoomba and have been thinking about getting involved, this is your moment. There are so many ways to contribute — and we’re especially on the lookout for Driver Mentors to help more Waymakers build confidence, independence, and connection in their new community.

Come be part of it.

There are some people who leave a mark that’s hard to put into words… and Kinda Flaha is one of them.

For over three years, Kinda has been a driving force behind so much of what You Belong is today. From standing on stages and courageously sharing her story, to representing our community with warmth, strength, and authenticity — she has helped shape not just programs, but people.

Kinda’s journey from Syria to Toowoomba is one of resilience and hope, but it’s what she’s done with that journey that has been so powerful. She’s been a catalyst for connection — especially for women and newly arrived families — through initiatives like Cook to Connect and the Good Neighbour Initiative. Spaces where strangers became friends, and where belonging wasn’t just spoken about… it was felt.

Her energy is something you don’t forget. Joyful, generous, full of life — the kind of presence that lifts a room and draws people in. So many in our community have felt seen, welcomed, and encouraged because of Kinda.

And behind it all is her beautiful family — Yamin and little Ibrahim — who have shared in this journey and been part of the story in such a special way.

While it’s incredibly hard to say goodbye, it’s also exciting to see what’s ahead. If the past few years are anything to go by, there’s no doubt Kinda will continue to create impact wherever she goes.

Kinda, thank you. For your courage, your leadership, your laughter, and your love for this community.

You’ll always be part of the story. 💛

There’s something powerful about a set of car keys… not just what they unlock, but what they represent 🚗

Last week we celebrated an incredible milestone — our Road Safety program participants graduating, equipped and ready to take their next steps towards driving with confidence and independence.

For many of these Waymakers, this journey is about so much more than learning the road rules. It’s about freedom, opportunity, and the courage to keep moving forward in a new chapter of life.

We’re so proud of every single participant who showed up, leaned in, and took that brave step.

And here’s where the journey continues…

We’re gently inviting a few more volunteer mentor drivers to come alongside these new learners — to sit in the passenger seat, offer guidance, share a few laughs, and be part of something deeply meaningful.

It’s simple, flexible, and genuinely one of the most rewarding ways to give back.

Because sometimes, changing a life looks like helping someone turn the key.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, this might just be your moment.
