NEW PROSTATE TESTING GUIDELINES 🇦🇺

Australia has released the first major update to its prostate cancer early-detection guidelines in 10 years.

One important change is what happens after a raised PSA result.

A raised PSA does not automatically mean a biopsy. A raised PSA is generally repeated to confirm the result. If it remains elevated, further assessment may include specialist referral and an MRI before biopsy.

For Check Your Mate, the message remains simple:

Have the conversation. Know your risk. Talk to your GP.

Early detection can make a difference.

CHECK YOUR MATE.

General awareness information only. This does not replace medical advice. Individual testing and medical decisions should be discussed with your GP or treating health professional.

đź’™ THIS IS WHY EARLY DETECTION MATTERS.

Australian data shows that men diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer have a five-year relative survival rate of at least 98%.

That is not a guaranteed cure, and every man’s situation is different, but it shows just how important finding prostate cancer early can be.

I know firsthand how confronting prostate cancer can be. That is why I am encouraging men not to wait for symptoms or to put off the conversation.

A PSA test is a simple blood test. It cannot diagnose prostate cancer by itself, but it can help your GP decide whether further investigation is needed.

Talk to your GP about whether PSA testing is right for you—and encourage your father, brother, son, teammate, workmate or friend to do the same.

HAVE THE CONVERSATION.
CHECK YOUR MATE.

💙 NO SYMPTOMS DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN NO PROSTATE CANCER.

Prostate cancer often has no noticeable symptoms in its early stages.

A PSA test is a simple blood test. It does not diagnose prostate cancer on its own, but it can help your GP determine whether further checks may be needed.

If you’re 50 or over, ask your GP whether PSA testing is right for you. If prostate cancer runs in your family, start the conversation earlier.

Check Your Mate is not medical advice, it’s mate-to-mate awareness and a reminder to look out for the men around us.

Share this with your father, brother, son, teammate, workmate or friend. One conversation could make a real difference.

Prostate awareness is not medical advice, it’s mate-to-mate awareness.

Most of the symptoms shown here can be caused by conditions other than prostate cancer. In many cases, they may be related to common or treatable prostate or urinary conditions.

That said, these changes should never be ignored.

If something doesn’t feel right, it’s worth having a conversation with your GP. Ruling out a serious condition early can make a significant difference to your health and your future.

I’m not a doctor. This campaign is simply about encouraging men to have the conversation, get the right advice and look out for one another.

If in doubt, ask your GP about a PSA test.

Check your mate. It could change a life.

Mining is tough.
So are some conversations blokes avoid.

From my own experience, after 9 years in mining, quarries and civil construction as an operator and leading hand, I understand the long shifts, pressure, fatigue, early starts, time away from family, and the culture of just pushing through.

But looking after your health matters.

That is why Check Your Mate exists, to remind men to have the conversation, check in on their mates, and ask their GP whether a PSA test is right for them.

Sometimes the hardest question is the one a mate needs to hear:

“Have you had a check-up?”
“Have you spoken to your GP?”
“Have you asked about a PSA test?”

If any local business, workplace, mine crew, quarry crew, civil construction team, sporting club or community group would like a short awareness message or toolbox-style talk around Check Your Mate, please contact Rob Chappel.

This is not medical advice, it is a local mate-to-mate awareness campaign encouraging men to start the conversation and speak with their GP about whether a PSA test is right for them.

Have the conversation. Ask your GP whether a PSA test is right for you.
