VET Excellence Awards 2026 🏆

This morning, we gathered at the iconic NSW Parliament House to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Year 12 students excelling in their Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses.

Our 2026 award recipients have demonstrated incredible dedication, commitment and excellence, not only in their studies, but also through their industry work placements. These students are building valuable skills, embracing opportunities and taking exciting steps towards their future careers. We couldn’t be prouder!

A special thank you to Mark Speakman MP for addressing our guests and sharing his support for vocational education and young people, and to our Guest Speaker, Flynn Crewes, a 2022 VET Excellence Award recipient, for sharing his journey and inspiring our students.

We also proudly recognised our Youth Council, celebrating their contribution, leadership and commitment throughout the year. Congratulations to all our 2026 VET Excellence Award recipients. Your achievements deserve to be celebrated!

Thank you to our distinguished guests, education and industry partners, and The Youth Partnership Board Members for joining us and supporting this special event.

📸 Stay tuned to our social media channels over the coming week as we shine a spotlight on each of our 2026 award recipients! All the professional photos will be shared via our social channels and with the award recipients.

Last week, we had the opportunity to deliver our Interview Assurance Program at Shire Christian School, supporting 75 Year 9 students through one-on-one mock interviews.

The program gives students the chance to experience what a real interview feels like, practise answering questions, build their confidence and develop valuable communication skills for future employment opportunities.

Each student will also receive an individual feedback evaluation form, highlighting their strengths and providing practical tips to help them continue developing their interview skills.

A big thank you to our wonderful volunteer interviewers who gave their time, experience and encouragement to support the students: Rebecca Pragnell, Kaitlyn Butler, Emily Olguin, Saadia Atif, Remy Chatenay, Samantha Mellor and Nicole Crump. 👏

Thank you to Shire Christian School for welcoming us and helping prepare students with skills they can take into their future careers.

Wrapping Up August!

August has been another busy and rewarding month for The Youth Partnership team, with plenty happening across our schools, workplaces and local community.

Our team spent the month connecting with new host employers, attending local expos, networking within the community and meeting with key stakeholders to continue building strong industry partnerships. We also had the opportunity to invest in our own learning, with team members taking part in professional development at Adobe.

Supporting students remained at the heart of what we do, with some team members being involved in delivering our Interview Assurance Program and visiting schools to help students feel prepared and confident ahead of their work placements.

It’s been a month of learning, collaboration, new connections and creating opportunities for young people. We’re looking forward to carrying that momentum into September!

Today, our team members Samantha and Cathryn visited Aspect South East Sydney School, one of the newest schools we are supporting with work placement, to deliver our ‘Are You Ready?’ session to their VET Hospitality students. Aspect Schools are leaders in education for children on the autism spectrum.

The session focused on helping students feel prepared and confident for their upcoming work placements, covering what to expect in the workplace, workplace responsibilities, communication and how to make the most of the experience.

Inclusive practice is an important part of how we support work placement. We work with schools to understand the individual needs of students, adapt our support where needed, and carefully select and prepare host employers to help ensure every student has equitable access to a safe, meaningful and positive workplace experience.

We were also joined by Jen from Phoenix Community Project, who run local school canteens where some of the students will be completing their placements. It was a great opportunity for Jen to meet the students ahead of time, introduce herself and chat with them about what they can expect during their placement.

We’re looking forward to continuing to work alongside the school, students and host employers to create positive and supported workplace experiences where every student has the opportunity to put their Hospitality skills into practice. 👏

National Skills Week 2026

Yesterday, our CEO, Diana Lang had the opportunity to attend the NSW Conference of National Skills Week 2026 at Business Sydney.

This year’s theme, “Life Changing,” highlighted the powerful impact that gaining the right skills at the right time can have on a person’s future.

The day brought together apprentices, employers, educators, industry leaders and policymakers to explore how skills can change a life, change an industry, change a system and change a community.

With nearly half of all new jobs created over the next decade expected to require VET qualifications, events like National Skills Week are an important reminder of the role vocational education and training plays in building career pathways and addressing skills shortages.

A fantastic day celebrating the people, partnerships and opportunities that show just how life-changing skills can be.

Yesterday, our Work Placement Manager Cathryn had the opportunity to attend the Department of Education VET Coordinators Term Meeting at the Miranda Education Office, representing the Work Placement Program.

It was a great opportunity to connect with VET Coordinators from across our region, check in and share a brief work placement update as part of the meeting agenda.

A highlight was hearing the positive acknowledgement of our Work Placement Team and the support they provide to schools, along with recognition of our wonderful network of host employers and the valuable workplace experiences they continue to provide for students.

It’s always great to connect, listen and strengthen the partnerships that help create quality work placement opportunities for our students.

William recently attended the TAFE Connect event at Gymea, bringing together TAFE NSW, local businesses and community representatives to connect, collaborate and share ideas.

The day provided a valuable opportunity to take part in robust discussions around the needs, challenges and opportunities within our local community, while exploring ways we can work together to create meaningful outcomes.

It was great to contribute to conversations about how TAFE NSW, local businesses and community organisations can work hand-in-hand to deliver more effective services and strengthen opportunities for young people across the Shire.

A fantastic day of connection, collaboration and shared ideas. Thanks to TAFE NSW for bringing everyone together!
