These 2 pictures remind you that from Tuesday, 1st SEPTEMBER, permits are required to burn. If you live in an urban area you will probably not be issued with one.
The other picture reminds us that whilst the bush may look green that doesn’t mean it won’t burn.

As the BUSHFIRE DANGER PERIOD starts on the 1st SEPTEMBER
there has never been a better time for being prepared and that’s why the Far South Coast Team ran an exercise with all agencies that would be involved. “ Not all firefighters carry a hose”😉

So what’s the connection with a rain cloud and a bowl of cornflakes?
The bush is still dry despite the recent rain and an indication is when the leaf litter crunches like you’re walking on cornflakes, then the fuel on the ground is dry….very dry.
Surf Beach Members train every Wednesday from 7pm so you may catch us training in your area…stop and ask how you can join our brigade.

The NSW RFS now has fire fighters and Aircraft in both North America and France. That’s a big commitment from Australia and it’s also a reminder that The Far South Coast Fire Danger season will commence on the 1st September.
Now would be a good time to check out those gutters that may have leaf litter or check around the house/property for anything that looks like a possible ignition point.

Whilst our new Fire Station received a lot of publicity, we can’t let this updated Brigade Station slip by without a mention.
Volunteers whether it’s the NSW RFS, NSW SES or other volunteer organisations….they are the heart of the community, in other words priceless..

WHAT IS A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER.?
That’s someone who leaves their dinner halfway through or leaves their family function and even misses their kids sports day just to come and help someone whose day just turned to a disaster..
IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING YOU COULD DO, visit our new station on Tallgums Way, Surf Beach.(Wednesday from 7pm)
NOT paid but always PROFESSIONAL.

It’s been sometime since we’ve had significant rain therefore the fuel on the ground is very dry. If you decide to do a pile burn you are obliged to let the NSW RFS know 24 hours before lighting up.
There are other considerations such as placing the the burn away from structures and away from neighbours fence/property.
Today SURF BEACH/ BATEMANS BAY and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 217 Batemans Bay were called to this incident.if a burn gets away it is the responsibility of the person who has lit up.
This could have been worse had crews not jumped on it quickly.

A very quick response from Surf Beach, Batemans Bay RFS and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 217 Batemans Bay prevented a small fire from turning into a big one. Unfortunately the public path that runs beside the Aged Care facility on Beach Road has now been taped off, Whilst the Fire season doesn’t start until 1st September, the fuel on the ground is very dry.

40 days seems a long time but that takes us to the 1st SEPTEMBER when the Fire Danger Period starts for the FAR SOUTH COAST.
After the 1st September, permits will be required…just a reminder
if you intend to do any pile burns.
