🚨 Attention Hawkesbury students! 🚨

The What Matters? Writing Competition returns in 2026, inviting students in Years 5 to 12 across Australia to share what matters to them through original writing of 600 words or less.

Entries may be fiction, non-fiction, persuasive writing, poetry or prose, giving young people the freedom to express their views on any issue they care about.

Entries close this Friday, 15 May 2026.

We held our first public Open Mic Night for the Hawkesbury writing community, and honestly? It was incredible.

There’s a unique kind of bravery in standing up and sharing your private words with a room full of people. We heard stories that were inspiring, funny, magical and thrilling.

This video doesn’t just show a bunch of writers. It shows a community finding its voice.

If you missed this one, don’t worry, this was just the beginning.
