Pims vader kijkt hem verbaasd aan.
‘Dat kan toch niet’, zegt hij. ‘Dat is mijn moeder!’
Waarop Pim boos zegt: 'Nou en, jij bent ook met mijn moeder getrouwd!’ 😂🤣😂

Pim says to his father:
"Dad, I'm getting married."
"To who?" asks his father.
"To Grandma," says Pim.
His father looks at him in surprise.
"You can't do that," he says. "That's my mother!"

De Geschiedenis van de Gulden

Voordat de euro werd ingevoerd, betaalden Nederlanders meer dan 600 jaar lang met de gulden.

De naam "gulden" komt van het woord "gouden". De eerste guldens verschenen al in de 14e eeuw als gouden munten. In de eeuwen daarna groeide de gulden uit tot één van de bekendste en meest stabiele munteenheden van Europa.

Maar wat gebruikten Nederlanders vóór de gulden?

In de Middeleeuwen had iedere streek, stad of provincie vaak zijn eigen munten. Er waren onder andere stuivers, penningen, daalders, florijnen en vele andere lokale betaalmiddelen. Dit maakte handel soms behoorlijk ingewikkeld.

Vanaf de 17e eeuw werd de gulden steeds belangrijker en uiteindelijk groeide deze uit tot de nationale munteenheid van Nederland.

Op 1 januari 2002 veranderde alles. Na eeuwen van gebruik werd de gulden vervangen door de euro. Voor veel Nederlanders voelde het vreemd om ineens niet meer in guldens te rekenen. Sommigen doen dat stiekem nog steeds!

Wist je dat?

Toen de euro werd ingevoerd, was 1 euro gelijk aan 2,20371 gulden. Veel Nederlanders rekenden jarenlang bedragen terug naar guldens om te weten wat iets "echt" kostte.

The History of the Dutch Guilder

Before the euro was introduced, the Dutch used the guilder as their currency for more than 600 years.

The name "guilder" comes from the word "golden". The first guilders appeared in the 14th century as gold coins. Over the centuries, the guilder became one of Europe's most recognised and stable currencies.

But what did people use before the guilder?

During the Middle Ages, many Dutch cities and regions had their own currencies. There were stuivers, pennies, daalders, florins and many other local coins, making trade rather complicated.

From the 17th century onwards, the guilder became increasingly important and eventually developed into the national currency of the Netherlands.

Everything changed on 1 January 2002 when the euro replaced the guilder. After centuries of use, many Dutch people found it strange to suddenly stop thinking in guilders. Some still convert prices today!

Did You Know?

When the euro was introduced, 1 euro was worth 2.20371 guilders. Many Dutch people spent years converting prices back into guilders to work out what things really cost.

De ANWB Paddenstoel

Wie in Nederland fietst of wandelt, heeft ze vast wel eens gezien: de karakteristieke witte betonnen paddenstoelen met rode letters. Al meer dan 100 jaar helpen deze bijzondere wegwijzers Nederlanders de weg te vinden.

De eerste ANWB-paddenstoel verscheen in 1919. In die tijd nam het aantal auto's toe en werden veel houten wegwijzers vernield of gestolen. De ANWB bedacht daarom een slimme oplossing: een lage betonnen wegwijzer die niet eenvoudig kon worden omgereden, verplaatst of gestolen.

De paddenstoelen kregen hun herkenbare vorm zodat ze goed zichtbaar waren voor fietsers en wandelaars, maar het uitzicht niet verstoorden. Door hun lage hoogte bleven ze ook beter bestand tegen wind en weersomstandigheden.

Tegenwoordig staan er nog steeds duizenden ANWB-paddenstoelen verspreid door Nederland. Veel van de originele exemplaren zijn inmiddels monumenten geworden en worden zorgvuldig onderhouden door vrijwilligers en de ANWB.

Voor veel Nederlanders roepen de paddenstoelen herinneringen op aan fietsvakanties, zondagse fietstochten en zomerse uitstapjes door bossen, heidevelden en polders.

Wist je dat?

De ANWB-paddenstoel is een typisch Nederlands ontwerp en wordt vaak gezien als cultureel erfgoed. Sommige paddenstoelen zijn inmiddels meer dan 100 jaar oud en staan nog altijd op hun oorspronkelijke plek.

The ANWB Mushroom Signposts

Anyone who has cycled or walked in the Netherlands has probably seen them: the distinctive white concrete mushroom-shaped signposts with red lettering. For more than 100 years, these unique markers have helped people find their way.

The first ANWB mushroom signpost appeared in 1919. At the time, increasing numbers of cars meant many traditional wooden signs were being damaged or stolen. The Dutch motoring and touring organisation, ANWB, came up with a clever solution: a low concrete signpost that could not easily be knocked over, moved or stolen.

The mushroom shape made the signs easy to spot for cyclists and walkers while blending into the landscape. Their low height also made them more resistant to wind and weather.

Today, thousands of ANWB mushroom signposts can still be found throughout the Netherlands. Many of the original signs have become heritage items and are maintained by volunteers and the ANWB.

For many Dutch people, these signposts bring back memories of cycling holidays, Sunday bike rides and summer adventures through forests, heathlands and polders.

Oranje Ontbijtplank met Nederlandse Kazen

Met de WK-wedstrijden die voor ons vaak vroeg in de ochtend worden gespeeld, is dit het perfecte Nederlandse voetbalontbijt om van te genieten terwijl je Oranje aanmoedigt.

Een goede ontbijtplank hoeft niet ingewikkeld te zijn. Met een selectie heerlijke Nederlandse kazen, een vers broodje en een kop koffie ben je helemaal klaar voor de wedstrijd.

Ingrediënten

* Verse broodjes of croissants
* Maasdammer
* Jonge of belegen Gouda
* Mini Stroopwafels
* Beemster
* Vincent
* Rembrandt
* Gekookte eieren
* Ontbijtkoek
* Mini stroopwafels
* Druiven
* Komkommer
* Boter
* Koffie of thee
* Vers sinaasappelsap

Bereiding

1. Snijd de verschillende kazen in plakjes of blokjes.
2. Leg ze samen met de broodjes, eieren, ontbijtkoek, stroopwafels en fruit op een grote plank.
3. Schenk een verse kop koffie of thee in.
4. Zet de wedstrijd aan en geniet van een echt Nederlands ontbijt.

Serveertip

Maak er een kleine kaasproeverij van. Begin met de mildere kazen zoals Maasdammer en Gouda en werk langzaam toe naar de rijkere smaken van Vincent en Rembrandt.

Orange Match Day Breakfast Board with Dutch Cheeses

With World Cup matches often kicking off early in the morning for us, this Dutch-inspired breakfast board is the perfect way to enjoy the game while cheering on the Oranje.

A great breakfast board doesn't need to be complicated. With a selection of Dutch cheeses, fresh bread and a cup of coffee, you're all set for kick-off.

Ingredients

* Fresh bread rolls or croissants
* Maasdam cheese
* Young Gouda
* Cumin cheese
* Beemster
* Vincent
* Rembrandt
* Boiled eggs
* Dutch ontbijtkoek
* Mini stroopwafels
* Grapes
* Cucumber
* Butter
* Coffee or tea
* Fresh orange juice

Method

1. Slice the cheeses and arrange them on a large board.
2. Add the bread rolls, eggs, ontbijtkoek, stroopwafels and fruit.
3. Pour a fresh cup of coffee or tea.
4. Turn on the match and enjoy a true Dutch breakfast experience.

Serving Tip

Turn it into a cheese tasting. Start with the milder cheeses such as Maasdam and Gouda before moving on to the richer flavours of Vincent and Rembrandt.

🇳🇱⚽ FIFA Wereldkampioenschap Voetbal 2026 ⚽🇦🇺

Het WK Voetbal is begonnen en miljoenen supporters over de hele wereld volgen weer de grootste sportwedstrijd ter wereld!

Nederland doet voor de 12e keer mee aan een WK en jaagt nog altijd op die felbegeerde eerste wereldtitel. Ondanks drie verloren finales (1974, 1978 en 2010) behoort Oranje al decennialang tot de sterkste voetballanden ter wereld. Met het beroemde "Totaalvoetbal", de oranje supporters en een rijke voetbalgeschiedenis zorgt Nederland altijd voor spektakel.

Ook Australië heeft zich opnieuw geplaatst voor het WK. De Socceroos zijn inmiddels een vaste deelnemer geworden en bereikten de achtste finales in zowel 2006 als 2022. Voetbal groeit nog steeds in populariteit in Australië en de verwachtingen zijn hooggespannen.

The FIFA World Cup is finally underway, and football fans around the world are once again glued to their screens!

The Netherlands is taking part in its 12th World Cup and is still chasing that elusive first World Cup title. Despite reaching the final three times (1974, 1978 and 2010), the Dutch have never lifted the trophy. Famous for "Total Football", orange-clad supporters and passionate fans, the Oranje always bring excitement to the world's biggest sporting event.

Australia continues to punch above its weight on the world stage. The Socceroos have qualified for six consecutive World Cups and famously reached the Round of 16 in both 2006 and 2022. With football continuing to grow in popularity across Australia, the green and gold will be hoping for another strong tournament.

Giethoorn, het Venetië van Nederland

Veel Nederlanders kennen Giethoorn als één van de mooiste dorpen van Nederland. Dit pittoreske dorp in Overijssel staat bekend om zijn grachten, bruggetjes en traditionele boerderijen.

Wat Giethoorn bijzonder maakt, is dat veel huizen alleen per boot of via wandelpaden bereikbaar zijn. Auto's spelen er nauwelijks een rol in het oude dorpscentrum.

Het dorp ontstond in de 13e eeuw en trekt tegenwoordig bezoekers van over de hele wereld die willen genieten van de rust, natuur en typisch Nederlandse sfeer.

🥳 Harpoon Harry's 🥳

Een 84-jarige dame zit in Harpoon Harry's te wachten op haar man.
Plotseling komt er een knappe man binnen die een paar krukken verderop gaat zitten.
De man ziet er zó goed uit dat ze haar ogen niet van hem af kan houden.
Na een tijdje merkt de man dat ze naar hem zit te staren en loopt hij naar haar toe.
Nog voordat de dame zich kan verontschuldigen, kijkt de man haar diep in de ogen en zegt met een verleidelijke stem:
"Ik doe alles wat u wilt. Echt alles wat u zich maar kunt voorstellen. Het maakt niet uit hoe extreem of ongewoon het is, ik doe mee. Ik wil er wel $100 voor hebben, en er is nog één voorwaarde."
Volledig overdonderd door deze onverwachte wending vraagt de dame wat die voorwaarde dan is.
"U moet me in precies drie woorden vertellen wat u wilt dat ik doe."

De dame neemt even de tijd om over het aanbod van de knappe man na te denken.
Dan pakt ze haar handtas, haalt er $100 uit en stopt het geld in zijn hand.
Vervolgens kijkt ze hem recht in de ogen en zegt langzaam en duidelijk:
"Verf mijn huis." 🎨🏠

Onze behoeften veranderen als we ouder worden. We worden slimmer en gaan steeds meer op zoek naar koopjes! 😉🤣

🥳 Harpoon Harry's 🥳
An 84-year-old lady is waiting for her husband in Harpoon Harry's.
Suddenly, a handsome man enters and sits down a few seats away.
The man is so attractive that she just can't take her eyes off him.
After a short while, the man notices her staring, and approaches her.
Before the lady has time to apologise, the man looks her deep in the eyes and says to her in a sultry tone, "I'll do anything you'd like. Anything you can imagine in your wildest dreams, it doesn't matter how extreme or unusual it is, I'm game. I want $100, and there's another condition."
Completely stunned by the sudden turn of events, the lady asks him what his condition is.
"You have to tell me what you want me to do in just three words."
The lady takes a moment to consider the offer from the handsome man.
She whips out her handbag and puts $100 dollars into his hand.
She then looks him square in the eyes and says slowly and clearly,
"Paint my house." 🎨🏠

Our needs change as we get older, we get smarter and tend to look for bargains.😉🤣
