Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Volunteering WA Annual General Meeting this morning.

We were able to hold the AGM at the new Volunteering WA Headquarters & Community Hub, which was a fantastic milestone.

This year's meeting gave us the opportunity to reflect on our achievements throughout the year, and how we continue to support the sector. We remain committed to empowering people and communities to enrich our state.

Thank you to all our Board, volunteers, staff, members, partners, and supporters who joined us, and for your continued support. Thanks also to our special guest speaker, 2026 WA Young Volunteer of the Year Ellie Vrankovich from Citizens Advice Bureau of WA.

Volunteering is vital for essential services and local communities, contributing $63.9 billion to the WA community and $4.8 billion to the State’s Gross State Product.

Yet volunteers and organisations continue to face barriers that make it harder for people to volunteer and for organisations to recruit and retain them.

That’s why we're calling on the WA Government to make targeted investments in volunteering.

Our submission sets out four key recommendations:
✅ Fix the volunteer screening system
✅ Review volunteer insurance arrangements
✅ Support volunteering through the fuel crisis
✅ Support Volunteering Development Services

The 2026–27 WA Youth Engagement Grants Program is now open.
The grants help local organisations and community groups deliver programs that strengthen young people's participation in community life, build leadership and life skills, and create opportunities for young people to contribute to decisions that affect them.

Eligible organisations can apply for:
🔹up to $5,000 for short-term, one-off projects (up to six months)
🔹up to $10,000 for longer term, community-wide projects (6-12 months)

Applications close at 3pm on Tuesday 10 November 2026.

"I love being able to make everyone’s visit that little bit more memorable and help their time at the park go smoothly. Spending time with the animals is also amazing."

Today we wish a very happy 20th anniversary to Caversham Wildlife Park 's very first volunteer, Paula! Congratulations on this milestone 🎂

When Paula and her husband relocated from the UK to Perth for his job, she never expected to still be here twenty years later, or to have spent every one of those years volunteering at Caversham Wildlife Park.

"Volunteering at Caversham has led to new friendships and I've learned a lot about Australian animals and witnessed the development of the park over the years."

Paula's commitment has also had a ripple effect on her whole family, inspiring them to take up their own volunteer roles, including Parkrun and fostering dogs in need of homes.

Now in its 8th year, the Clothing Drive collects quality clothing and accessories that are sold through Australian Red Cross Shops, raising vital funds to support people facing disaster, hardship and crisis - here in Australia and across the world.

How well do you understand the outcomes of your organisation's volunteer program?
