You’re looking our photo of the month for August, sent in by Steve Sass , and what a beauty it is!

Captured is a male Superb Fairy Wren (Malurus cyaneus) with his impressive yellow petal, a mating offering for his prospective partner.

Male Superb Fairy Wrens display a yellow (or pink) petal as part of their courtship ritual, and we think that’s pretty cool 🌼

Starting back in 1992, September 1st marks not only the first day of spring but, National Wattle Day here in Australia.

A small nod to our national floral emblem, the golden wattle, and the beautiful burst of colour it brings to the Australian landscape each spring.

As the days grow longer and the landscape begins to wake up, it’s a lovely reminder of the changing seasons and the incredible biodiversity right on our doorstep.

Spring is in the air! Can you feel it?

And with springs arrival, seasonal shifts and changes can be seen, heard and experienced here at the wetlands.

You'll notice bird species returning to breed, our resident red-bellied black snakes will begin basking in the warm sunshine again, and you may even come across some sizeable blue-tongue lizards on your adventures.

As always, please walk dogs within the designated dogs-friendly areas and watch your step, sharing Panboola with our scaly friends is all part of caring for this very special place.

Given the most recent outbreak of bird flu reaching Australian shores this winter, we thought it was important to address it here and share some ways we can all work together to look out for and protect the wild birds that call the South Coast home.

Our wetlands play a vital role in bird health, and so does our vigilance as a community.

We share a lot about the animals that inhabit Panboola, both on land and in the sky, but we don't often give the creatures that live below the surface of our waterways (or just above it) the credit they deserve.

Today, the spotlight is on our scaly, slippery and water-loving friends that help keep our wetlands alive and thriving.
