✨ THE NEXT GENERATION DESERVES ITS MOMENT IN THE SPOTLIGHT!

As we reflect on the AESA Conference in Cairns, one thing remains at the heart of community eisteddfods: creating opportunities for people to perform, learn and grow.

Behind every event is a network of dedicated people β€” volunteers, teachers, adjudicators, families, supporters and organisers β€” working together to make those opportunities possible.

The future of the Shoalhaven Eisteddfod depends on continuing that community effort: welcoming new volunteers, encouraging participation and making room for the next generation of performers.

Whether you're a parent supporting a young musician, a teacher preparing students, an audience member enjoying a performance or someone considering volunteering for the first time, you have a part to play.

πŸ’› Help us keep the stage alive in the Shoalhaven!

πŸ’‘ BETTER TOGETHER: SHARING IDEAS ACROSS AUSTRALIA

Every eisteddfod has its own history, traditions and local character. But many face similar questions.

How do we attract new volunteers? How can we encourage more young people to participate? How do we make our events welcoming and enjoyable for performers and audiences? And how can we ensure our societies remain sustainable for the future?

Conferences such as AESA 2026 in Cairns provide a space for people involved in eisteddfods to connect, exchange experiences and consider new approaches to these shared challenges.

Sometimes, an idea that works in one community can inspire a fresh approach in another.

For the Shoalhaven Eisteddfod, maintaining these connections is one way to keep learning and exploring opportunities for our own community.

🌱 Our goal is to respect the traditions that make our eisteddfod special while continuing to look for ways to grow and improve.

If you could suggest one thing to make local performing arts events even better, what would it be?

🏑 GREAT PERFORMING ARTS OPPORTUNITIES SHOULDN'T BE LIMITED TO BIG CITIES!

Local eisteddfods help bring music, dance, speech and drama into the heart of regional communities.

They create opportunities for performers to take the stage, for families to celebrate achievements, for teachers to share their students' progress and for audiences to enjoy local talent.

They also bring people together β€” connecting schools, studios, community organisations, adjudicators and volunteers through a shared appreciation of the arts.

For regional societies like ours, being part of a national network such as AESA provides an opportunity to learn from others who understand the importance of maintaining these opportunities outside major metropolitan centres.

The Shoalhaven has an incredible community of performers, educators and supporters. Keeping our eisteddfod thriving helps future generations access the joy and personal growth that the performing arts can bring.

πŸ’› Why do you think access to music and performing arts matters in regional communities?

🎢 EVERY PERFORMANCE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN!

An eisteddfod is more than a competition. It's also a place to grow.

Adjudicators bring experience and specialist knowledge to their sections, offering feedback that can help performers understand their strengths and identify areas to develop.

For a singer, instrumentalist, dancer or speech and drama student, that feedback can become a valuable part of their learning journey.

For teachers and families, it can offer a fresh perspective and encouragement to keep learning.

Connecting with other eisteddfod societies at the AESA Conference gives organisers an opportunity to exchange ideas about how these experiences can continue to be meaningful for participants.

At the Shoalhaven Eisteddfod, we want performers to leave the stage with more than a result β€” we want them to leave with experience, encouragement and inspiration.

🎀 What advice or feedback have you received that helped you improve at something you love?

πŸ‘ EVERY GREAT PERFORMANCE HAS A TEAM BEHIND IT!

The performer may be in the spotlight, but an eisteddfod relies on many people working behind the scenes.

From registrations and certificates to timekeeping, ushering, backstage marshalling, setting up venues and welcoming audiences, volunteers help transform a hall into a place where performers can shine.

Community eisteddfods depend on people who are willing to give a little of their time, share their skills and be part of something meaningful.

One of the important things about connecting with the wider eisteddfod community through AESA is recognising that local societies share many of the same challenges β€” including finding and supporting the volunteers who make it all possible.

πŸ’š The Shoalhaven Eisteddfod is always keen to welcome new volunteers. You don't need to be a performing arts expert; a willingness to help is a wonderful start.

πŸ† IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT WINNING!

When we think of an eisteddfod, we might picture trophies, certificates and adjudicators. But the real value often goes far beyond the results.

For a young performer, stepping onto a stage can mean overcoming nerves, finding confidence and discovering a love of performance. For others, it's an opportunity to develop musical skills, learn from constructive feedback, build resilience and celebrate months of practice. And sometimes, simply having the courage to perform is the greatest achievement of all.

These are the experiences that make community eisteddfods so special β€” and why supporting them matters.

At the AESA Conference in Cairns, the broader eisteddfod community came together around the work involved in sustaining these opportunities for performers of all ages and all levels of experience.

πŸ’› What do you think is the greatest lesson a young person can learn from performing on stage?

Our hearts are full of gratitude for our volunteers and community, and our bellies were definitely full of delicious sausages at yesterday's Bunnings Sausage Sizzle. Thanks to all who came to support us - it was lovely to see you there!
