It’s Kulan’s birthday today 🎉

Always good to take a moment out of the routine and acknowledge the people putting in the effort day to day.

Kulan’s been showing up, getting involved, and steadily building his skills as part of the Huntlee Academy community. It’s that consistent approach that makes a real difference over time.

Hope today’s a good break from the usual and a chance to enjoy it with the people who matter most.

To mark the day, Kulan will be celebrating with a meat pack from Hungerford Meat Co.

Happy Birthday, Kulan 🎂👏

We’re now just 10 days away from the Hike for Brighter Futures 🏔️

Members of the Huntlee Academy community will be taking on this incredible challenge along sections of the Great Wall of China to raise funds for Barnardos Australia.

Barnardos does vital work supporting vulnerable children and young people, helping them find safety, rebuild confidence, and access the support they need to move forward in life. Their work creates real, lasting change for families who need it most.

At Huntlee Academy, we’re proud to stand behind initiatives that reflect our purpose, creating opportunity, strengthening communities, and supporting pathways to a better future.

Every donation, share, and message of support helps make a meaningful difference.

If you’re able to contribute, please support the fundraiser: https://fundraising.barnardos.org.au/fundraisers/belyndadavies

A well-timed mowing routine can make a big difference in keeping your lawn healthy and consistent throughout the season ✂️

As growth patterns begin to slow, mowing can typically be spaced out to every 7–14 days, depending on how your lawn is responding. Even with less frequent cuts, maintaining consistency helps keep the lawn looking even and prevents unnecessary stress.

A key rule to always follow:
👉 Never remove more than ⅓ of the grass height in a single mow

Cutting too much at once can put stress on the lawn, weaken the root system, and reduce overall resilience.

You can also start adjusting your mowing height slightly higher than usual, which helps protect the grass and supports stronger growth as conditions change.

Small, thoughtful adjustments like this help maintain a healthier, more resilient lawn over time.

We’re pleased to be partnering with Yalagan Registered Training (YRT) at Huntlee Academy.

YRT plays an important role in delivering accredited, industry-relevant training that supports people to build practical skills for real employment.

Through this partnership, our trainees are able to learn while they work, gaining exposure to active job sites across our Business Units and developing skills that directly translate into the workplace.

What makes this important is the way training and employment come together in real time. Participants are not only gaining qualifications, but also building confidence through doing the work itself.

It’s partnerships like this that help turn potential into capability, and capability into real employment outcomes across our community 🌱

At Huntlee Academy, we deliver tailored employment pathways that meet people where they are and help them move forward with confidence.

Through real, hands-on training in our business units, participants build job-ready skills, gain experience, and develop the confidence needed for sustainable employment.

Each pathway is personalised, supporting people to enter the workforce, return after time away, or grow new skills.

It’s practical training with real outcomes, creating real opportunity and lasting change 🌱

As gardens start to slow down in growth, it can become harder to keep soil consistently moist, control w**ds, and protect plants from fluctuating temperatures.

Without the right care, soil can dry out faster, w**ds can take over, and plants can become more stressed during this transition period 🌱

This is where mulching makes a big difference.

Applying a thick layer, around 5–7 cm, helps create a protective barrier over your soil and supports overall plant health in a simple but powerful way.

Mulch helps:
• Retain soil moisture for longer periods 💧
• Reduce w**d growth and competition 🌾
• Regulate soil temperature and protect roots 🌡️

This is especially important in regions like the Hunter Valley, where dry conditions and intense heat can place extra stress on gardens.

A well-mulched garden is more resilient, easier to maintain, and better prepared for changing seasonal conditions.

Need a hand with mulching or garden maintenance?

We’re proud to work alongside TAFE NSW as one of our valued training partners at Huntlee Academy 🤝

Through this partnership, our trainees are given the opportunity to work towards nationally recognised qualifications while gaining real, hands-on experience across our Business Units.

TAFE NSW plays an important role in helping our participants build practical skills and confidence in areas such as landscaping, parks and gardens, and other essential industry pathways 🌱

For many of our trainees, this combination of structured learning and real workplace experience is what helps turn opportunity into long-term employment outcomes.

Partnerships like this are at the heart of what we do. They create clear pathways into work and support people to build sustainable futures through skill development and real experience.

As the cooler months settle in, May is the ideal time to give your lawn and garden a little extra care 🌱

Slow-release fertiliser helps provide a steady supply of nutrients over time, supporting:
• Stronger root growth
• Healthier lawns and plants
• Better resilience during winter
• Longer-lasting nourishment for your garden

It’s a simple seasonal step that can make a noticeable difference to the health and appearance of your outdoor spaces.

One important thing to keep in mind is to avoid heavy feeding later in the month. Too much fertiliser can encourage soft new growth, which is more vulnerable to colder temperatures and seasonal stress.

A few small adjustments during May can help set your garden up well for the colder months ahead.

This year, members of Huntlee Academy are taking on an 8-day trek along the Great Wall of China 🏔️ to help support the work Barnardos does with vulnerable children and young people.

It’s a big challenge, and it reflects something we care deeply about at Huntlee Academy. Creating opportunities, building confidence, and helping people move forward with purpose.

Barnardos provides that support every day, helping kids feel safe, recover, and grow. Every donation helps make that possible.
