The Community Social Project stands in solidarity with Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council and all land councils pushing back on the NSW Governments proposed changes to the Crown Land management act.

We understand the recent update is that these changes have been shelved but we are concerned this is something that will be attempted again.

We encourage you to all sign the petition to ensure the government knows the support is behind Aboriginal people and their rights when it comes to making land claims.

Community update 📣🗣️

For over 6 months now we have been volunteering with PCYC, the local Police and Youth Command every Thursday night with the U-Nites program.

This is to help promote socialisation, wellbeing and belonging particularly with youth facing adversity.

Last night we started some simple care packs for them. These include essentials like toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo, body wash and deodorant.

We are also trying to provide targeted support to keep them on track to engage with their studies and employment. These include some simple breakfasts and snacks, back packs, lunch boxes etc

If anyone could considering donating some money or items to help support our local youth here in Maitland your support would be greatly appreciated. Any personal care items, sanitary products, up&go, museli bars, snacks, bags, socks, 2 minute noodles. We’d also love to be able to set up a small pantry so that the youth in need can access meals and snacks for school days. Please send us a message if you’d like to arrange a drop off.

We are also looking for volunteers to join us on a Thursday night with the possibilty of us offering a second night soon. Available between the hours of 5-8.30pm. WWCC and police check are a must. Please contact us if you are interested.

Hey everyone!

Currently the NSW government is taking feedback on what the community believes should happen at the old Maitland Hospital site.

The Community Social Project acknowledge the need for community spaces within the Maitland local government area. We’d love to see a space where community members and particularly the local youth can access support services, counselling, a community pantry, a multi purpose sports court, community kitchen, showers and bathroom facilities.

We have concerns and note concerns within the community that this will be sold off to developers and turned into hotel accommodation or apartments. We want to see more housing built in Maitland and would be supportive of this being turned into social and affordable housing but we are concerned this won’t be the case. We want something that will benefit the Maitland community, not property developers.

We encourage everyone within the Maitland LGA to please make a submission. It has a few short questions and a couple of multiple choice. It takes no longer than 5-10 minutes to complete.

Please consider completing this form and ensure our assests stay in public hands and for the benefit of Maitland and surrounds!

Thank you!

Love seeing this flag and all flags representing Indigenous people flying

Today marks the 54th anniversary of the Aboriginal Flag first being raised in 1971 at a land rights rally in Tarntanyangga (Victoria Square), Adelaide.

To this day, it still is a symbol of hope and strength for our people, representing our ongoing spiritual connection to Country.
