Something new from WAWMR, a mini Travel seminar. 35 ladies attended.
Things discussed were packing your bike and riding across Australia—or across another country or region. What bike should you ride? How much experience do you need? What should you pack? How do you handle safety, border crossings, foreign currencies, bike maintenance, and all the unexpected challenges that come with adventure riding?

WA Women Motorcycle Riders bought Juvena Huang (The Wandering Wasp) over from Singapore, joining her on the panel were local ladies Tamara Kabat and Kyra Eddy, both who have travelled extensively themselves. It was a very informative event, that will no doubt be expanded upon at a later date.

Bonus for those attending that are passing WRWR batons, with 2 Gold batons boing up for exchange!

Warm weather prompts safety reminder for motorcyclists and drivers

Commander Mike Peters is urging all road users to take extra care this weekend, with warmer weather expected to bring increased numbers of motorcyclists onto Western Australian roads.

Commander Peters said motorcycle riders are among the State's most vulnerable road users and that everyone has a role to play in preventing serious and fatal crashes.

"Warm weather provides ideal conditions for many riders to get out and enjoy their motorcycles. We are reminding both riders and drivers to look out for one another on our roads, particularly this weekend," Commander Peters said.

"Motorcycle riders should ensure they wear appropriate protective gear, ride to the conditions and always ride within their abilities. Speed continues to be overrepresented in serious and fatal motorcycle crashes.

"For drivers, it is important to remain alert and avoid distractions such as mobile phones and other non-essential activities. The message is simple: look out for each other this weekend. A momentary lapse in attention can have devastating consequences."

Commander Peters said road users should expect to see a strong police presence along popular motorcycle routes throughout the weekend.

"Police will be out in force in marked and unmarked vehicles, on police motorcycles, and through Road Safety Commission safety camera operations.

"Our focus is on encouraging safe road user behaviour and reducing the risk of serious crashes."

To date this year, 23 motorcycle riders have lost their lives on Western Australian roads, compared with 15 at the same time last year.

"Every one of these deaths is a tragedy that has a lasting impact on families, friends and communities," Commander Peters said.

"We are asking everyone to pay attention, make safe decisions and show consideration for other road users.

"Our goal is simple: for everyone who heads out on the roads this weekend to return home safely. Together, we can help make this a death-free weekend on Western Australian roads."

In 2015, Huang left Singapore on her Vespa scooter to travel the world. Forty-four thousand kilometres, 25 countries, and 27 months later, she accomplished her goal. Crossing through Southeast Asia, Nepal, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, and Europe, she documented her travels on her blog, The Wandering Wasp, named after the Italian translation of the word Vespa.
