Meet Tamworth OzFisher Lisa Jenner – the carp-catching queen of 2026! ⁠ ⁠

Lisa absolutely cleaned up in the first OzFish online Carp Muster, with an incredible haul of 433 carp from the Murray–Darling Basin over six months. She accounted for the lion’s share of the total 619 carp caught during the competition, taking home a $1,000 BCF voucher for her efforts. ⁠

The Carp Muster invited rec fishers across the Murray-Darling Basin to get out on the water and compete to catch the most and the biggest carp possible, uploading their results online. ⁠

Every carp removed helps give native fish like Murray Cod a hand by reducing competition for food and habitat and taking pressure off our waterways. ⁠

A massive congratulations to Lisa on an outstanding effort – and to every fisho who got involved in the muster. ⁠

Spring is here, which means Murray Cod are pairing up to breed!

The annual closed season runs from 1 September to 30 November, giving Cod a chance to lay eggs, protect their young and replenish our rivers.

While Cod fishing takes a break, OzFish chapters across the Murray-Darling Basin are keeping busy:
• Installing fish hotels: Launching habitat structures to shelter juvenile Cod.
• Revegetating waterways: Planting aquatic native plants to increase food sources and prevent erosion.

Still want to wet a line? You can target Cod year-round in key impoundments exempt from the closure in NSW, Qld and Victoria. Check your state's fisheries regulations before fishing.

❗️Attention NSW OzFishers❗️

TONIGHT’s virtual event is your last chance to join the
conversation around the future health of NSW’s waterways.

Over the past month, the NSW Community Water Quality Tour has brought together researchers, rec fishers and community groups for lively discussions, fascinating insights and inspiring ideas about how we can work together for healthier waterways and better fishing.

If you couldn't make one of the regional events, you have one final opportunity to be part of the conversation – no matter where in NSW you live, work and fish.

OzFish will be hosting the tour’s one and only online session tonight, 23 July, from 7pm to 9pm.

Professor Kirsten Benkendorff of Southern Cross University, marine biologist Dr Ben Diggles, and aquatic veterinary specialist Dr Matt Landos will offer their insight and expertise on some of the biggest challenges facing NSW waterways today.

The session will end with an open discussion – your local knowledge and firsthand observations could play a vital role in turning conversation into community action!

A big shout-out to our monthly winners of the Murray Darling Basin Carp Muster, for the month of June 2026.

Congratulations to Lisa Jenner, who caught the most carp in June with an impressive total of 86 fish. The largest Carp entered was from Gavin Pay, with a 81cm monster from the Darling River.

With only one month to go, the overall leader-board sees Lisa Jenner in the top spot, with an amazing 257 Carp caught so far, with Gavin Pay sitting second on 107 Carp.

Congratulations to Gavin Pay, who caught the most carp in May with an impressive total of 49 fish. The largest Carp entered was from Panupong Funfuangfu, with a 84cm monster from the Murray River.

The overall leader-board sees Lisa Jenner in the top spot, with an amazing 171 Carp caught so far, with Gavin Pay sitting second on 93 Carp.

A big shout-out to our monthly winners of the Murray Darling Basin Carp Muster, for the month of March 2026.

Congratulations to Brenton Adcroft, who caught the most Carp for the month of April, landing a handy 13 Carp. The largest was an impressive 78cms.

The largest Carp award went Jason Walker, who managed to pip Brenton with an 80cm Carp from Wakool river.
