Calling for some help tomorrow morning to assist us checking hives at Raspberry farm and Strawberry farm. Ben and myself haven’t been able to check them as the weather was against us. If tomorrow is as good as it is today then we need to get the job done.
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help.

I’ve just finished a months experience with the homemade gyprock tape strips from Bunnings used as Varroa mite management in 3 of my hives as a comparison with normal cardboard strips. The gyprock tape cost approx $6.09. I measured 17” lengths and sewed 3 together on the sewing machine, but have seen it stapled on YouTube. I can’t remember how many strips I made but it was quite a few. I soaked them in my usual mix of OA and glycerine and applied them in hives & nucs with low to zero mite numbers.
They were chewed slightly after 1 month as per pics, easy to pull out of the hives between the frames due to the sown stitching with a j tool hive tool. Mite numbers remained zero to 1 mite per 300 bee wash, so definitely impressive I felt. My other hive mite numbers were also very low 0 to one x 7 with normal Cardboard OA strips, due to monthly checks and appropriate management. Each strip held 15gms OA and 15gms glycerine. I used 3 per 10F brood box, and 2 per nuc hive. The time spent cutting and sewing was not a chore, just a thing to try and experiment with as seen overseas in NZ.
I will continue testing experimenting and sharing my results. I hope it helps someone to try new things and think outside the box during these rough times with VM. Let us know if you’ve tried it, and your results 🙏🤗

2 new members from talking with people at the Caboolture Show. I invited people to come to my Apiary on the 22nd June for hands on with helping me check my home hives for general health and doing Varroa washes showing the correct method and then choosing the correct treatment. It you don’t have a suit then wear long pants and long sleeves and I can supply a veil. Dishwashing gloves will be ok to use.
50 W. Lindsay Road, Wamuran and phone or text me on 0417796306. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn.

Well that’s a wrap for Caboolture honey show for 2026! ❤️‍🔥
What a fabulous showcase of amazing honey entries in the honey competitions, just outstanding!
We had great fun educating the public on the importance of honey bees and their plight with the destruction caused by varroa mites and small hive beetle. Our live bee demonstration hive was a huge hit with show goers and the kids, with the Queen spotting game a fun one for all.
Honey tasting , honey popcorn and wax products were enjoyed by many over the 3 days events.
The MBBI team rallied and shared their love of bees with many questions asked by the interested public and swapped roles from show bag fairies, to ambassadors of our club, and teachers of all things bees.
I won’t name everyone as I’m sure to leave someone out, but all the members who showed up over the last 3 days to help out, you know who you are, know that you are valued and appreciated for all your support by everyone in our club. 💕🐝
A lot of planning, preparation and sourcing of goodies like plants, show bag items and display items was done behind the scenes by our events coordinator Ben, and our Treasurer (aka Grant writer extraordinaire) who have put in many hours before and during this show to pull off a wonderful event. We are very grateful for all you have done to pull it all off, take a well deserved bow! The colouring in completions sponsored by Mark Ryan and Ollies Trolley was a highlight when we saw the kids receiving their awards.
We had a blast Caboolture, here’s to bigger and better next year…
