This video from Black Mountain Honey expands on our recent discussion, offering practical guidance on creating brood breaks and applying APVMA approved Oxalic Acid treatments, helping improve treatment effectiveness against Varroa Mites.

Please note that the timing discussed is based on northern hemisphere seasons and should be adjusted to southern hemisphere months when applying locally. Additionally while the Italian approach may involve up to four treatments annually, current Australian guidelines recommend limiting oxalic acid treatments to two per year.

As we head into Winter, many Beekeepers will already be observing their colonies entering a natural brood break, with minimal brood and reduced pollen intake. Treatment options such as Apibioxal (a single well timed treatment) or Aluen Cap strips typically provides a 42 day application period, while Apivar provides a longer treatment window of approximately 6-10 weeks of continuous treatment, allowing coverage across most of winter.
