Our first stand for and what a mean as journey it has been for our Haka whānau!

Firstly, a big mihi to the 8 other kapa haka rōpū who took the stage over the weekend. The standard was incredible. Huge congratulations to Te Kahu Ariki for your win, and to Te Hau Tawhiti and Te Whare Haka o Naarama for coming in second and third an incredible achievement whānau mā!

To our kaumātua, Aunty Mary & Uncle Tami, thank you for representing and supporting our kapa with such pride and mana. Your presence and aroha mean so much to us, and we are truly grateful.

To the organisers of this event, and everyone behind the scenes. We see you whānau mā! Thank you for bringing this kaupapa to life once again for Te Whenuamoemoeā.

To our kaihaka, the heart of this kaupapa, 9 weeks of dedicated commitment, sacrifice, and hard work. Early mornings, long nights, pushing past limits, backing each other, and never giving up. We are so incredibly proud and filled with so much aroha for every single one of you.

Our Tutor Parehounuku Knowles, no words are enough to acknowledge the mahi you put in to make this happen for us. Thank you my gee, thank you for your mātauranga and guidance, and especially for the time you have given. What you have given to our kaihaka and to Ngā Manu Pūtohe will always be recognised, valued, and appreciated. Always!

To our kaitātaki, Kelly and Deej, we couldn’t have asked for better leaders. You led us through the trenches with aroha and manaakitanga at the forefront and we are so proud of the way you represented our kapa on and off the stage.

This kaupapa was originally created for the tamariki and rangatahi of Ngā Manu Pūtohe, but this pakeke ropu is whānau made up of many kapa. Te Rau Aroha, Te Aho Taitua thank you for believing in the kaupapa. Kotahitanga at its finest. This kaupapa is not just for our tamariki, but for all tamariki. Keep standing tall tamariki mā, keep believing in yourselves, and never forget the mana you carry within you. We hope we showed that learning never stops and that courage has no age limit.

Ko Ngā Manu Pūtohe
Kia tū Kia tau!
Kotahi te hau
Kotahi te karanga
Ka rere ka tau ka rere anō
Kia Tū… Kia Tau!

Ngā Manu Pūtohe Pākeke 2026

Next year marks a new chapter for Ngā Manu Pūtohe with the establishment of our very first Pākeke rōpū. This rōpū has been created for our rangatahi. It exists to strengthen the pathway behind them, to support their growth, and to ensure they are surrounded by strong tauira who carry the kaupapa with integrity, discipline, and aroha.

As our rangatahi continue to step into bigger spaces and higher levels of performance, we recognise the importance of adults standing alongside them, learning together, and committing to the same kaupapa. The Pākeke rōpū is about presence, responsibility, and building a collective that uplifts the next generation.

This rōpū will be entering Te Matatini Regionals on the Gold Coast in March 2026. This is a significant step for our kaupapa and one that requires commitment, consistency, and unity.

The first wānanga will be held at Marsden State High School on Saturday 10 January 2026 at 11am.

All questions regarding the Pākeke rōpū will be addressed on the first day. Attendance is essential for those who are interested in being part of this journey.

We move forward together, for our rangatahi, for our kaupapa, and for the future of Ngā Manu Pūtohe.
