Notify before you burn ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป๐Ÿ”ฅ

Although weโ€™ve seen some rain in recent days, conditions remain dry, particularly in the western parts of the state. Firefighters have been kept busy responding to a number of fires, several of which were caused by escaped burns.

While the Bush Fire Danger Period is no longer in place for all LGAs across NSW, we urge residents and land managers to check conditions before lighting a burn and remember that you are required to notify the RFS and your neighbours at least 24 hours before burning.

To notify the of your intention to burn, visit our website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

Happy Mother's Day! ๐Ÿ’

This Motherโ€™s Day, we celebrate the strength, dedication and compassion of mums everywhere, but especially those in our family.

Across the state, thousands of mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and aunties give their time to help protect their communities. Whether they're on the frontline or supporting behind the scenes their contributions are extraordinary.

Today, we thank them for all they do, not just as RFS members, but as leaders and role models in our brigades and communities.

Haven't checked your smoke alarms? Check now. ๐Ÿšจ

Getting ready to use that fireplace or have just recently started? Have the chimney checked out to ensure no blockages. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Dragged your electric heaters out? Make sure they're clean, free from dust build up & electrical cables are in good working order. ๐Ÿงน๐Ÿ”Œ

Winter is near however doesn't mean the fire risk isn't.
Ensure you are fire safe within your own home this cold season. ๐Ÿก

As we move into the colder months, fire agencies often see an increase in house fires as residents use their fireplaces and heaters to stay warm. With temperatures dropping and possible snow forecast across parts of the state in the coming days, itโ€™s important you know how to stay safe.

Remember, you wonโ€™t smell smoke while youโ€™re asleep, so make sure your bleeping smoke alarms are working. A working smoke alarm can save your life and give you and your family valuable time to escape a burning home.

Our thoughts go out to the families, friends & colleagues of the Marine Rescue members who tragically lost their lives last night.

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

โ€œThese two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

โ€œOur thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

โ€œWe are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

โ€œWe ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,โ€ Commissioner Andrews said.

Let us carry the spirit of ANZAC Day in our hearts, not just today, but every day.
Let us honour the memory of those who have served by embodying the values they upheld.
Let us ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten, that their stories are forever told, and that their legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of generations to come.

Lest we forget.

Marrangaroo crews have been assisting in the Kenny St Mount Victoria/Kanimbla Valley hazard reduction this weekend.

Crews have faced difficult terrain throughout the weekend however it has been a fantastic joint effort from crews throughout the Chifley & Blue Mountains Districts in undertaking this HR.

An important and crucial burn to get in this cooler season to minimise fire risk.
