Meet Lorelle! 🌟

We are excited to introduce Lorelle, the face behind our OSHC program and Certificate III trainee to the Minlaton Family team!

Lorelle joins us with a strong background in Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) and brings a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, and passion for working with children.

She is looking forward to launching our upcoming Holiday Program and can’t wait to meet all of our new friends and families.

When OSHC is not operating, Lorelle will also be spending time with our littlest friends in the early learning program, supporting children and building relationships across the centre.

Be sure to say hello and make her feel welcome when you see her around the service! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’™

Thinking about enrolling your school aged children for Vacation care? 🎨

It might be more affordable than you thought!

With Child Care Subsidy rebates (CCS) available for most families, we thought it may be helpful to show you what "Out of Pocket Costs" really looked like! Please be aware CCS often withhold a further 5% throughout the year to reduce the chance of overpayment, refunded at the end of financial year if your income is lower than estimated ☺️

At Yorke Peninsula Learning and Care we supply all food for your children throughout the day and a place where they can explore, build lasting relationships and thrive!

Enrolments for OSHC close this Friday 19th of June!

Experimenting with Colours 🎨

This week the Garrdi Kindy children showed an interest in exploring different colours. We gathered cups, food colouring, water, droppers, and containers to support their investigation.

Once the materials were ready, the children eagerly chose their colours. Each child carefully added a few drops of food colouring to the water and used the droppers to stir and mix the colours together.

Taking turns, the children experimented with combining different coloured waters. They observed and discussed the changes that occurred as the colours mixed together. Through their exploration, they discovered that:

Red and yellow made orange.

Red and green made brown.

Blue and yellow made turquoise/green.

This experience encouraged curiosity, cooperation, turn-taking, and early scientific thinking as they explored cause and effect through colour experimentation.

πŸͺƒπŸ‚Reconciliation Week πŸ‚πŸͺƒ

The past week the children have taken part in a range of meaningful and engaging experiences as we acknowledged Reconciliation Week - 27th May to 3rd June. Through storytelling, creative art inspired by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander symbols, music, and outdoor learning, the children have been exploring the importance of connection to Country, culture, and community. We are proud of the way they have embraced these learning opportunities and the conversations they have continued to share.

πŸ¦‹Our very own Hungry Caterpillar πŸ¦‹

Last week we had one of our wonderful families at Minlaton Family Centre donate a cocoon in a jar. This cocoon was to turn into a beautiful Monarch Butterfly!

This caused lots of excitement in the Wagaggu room and many conversations around the life cycle of a butterfly. To get a better understanding of the life cycle of a butterfly we read the book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar πŸ›'. We spent many group times talking about when our butterfly might hatch and what colours it might be! Lots of our friends guessed orange just like the butterfly on the box. We decided that our cocoon need a name, so with lots of discussion we decided on the name "Cocoon".

After lots of patience on Thursday morning 28/05 our butterfly hatched from its cocoon! Lots of smiles filled the Wagaggu room when everyone saw the little orange butterfly hanging upside down on the stick in the jar. After a little while we got the butterfly out of the jar and some of our brave Wagaggu children had a hold of the butterfly, using their very gentle hands! We took our butterfly to all the rooms in the centre and showed our friends. Everyone was very fascinated that such a small cocoon formed such a big beautiful butterfly.

Once our butterfly had started flapping their wings we knew it was time to release them, so in the afternoon we took our butterfly outside and held them until they were ready to fly away. After a long wait our butterfly was ready to go and we watched it fly away saying "bye, bye cocoon!"

It was a great experience learning about the life cycle of a caterpillar! A HUGE thankyou to the family who donated this, what a memorable experience for us all!
