Information Sought on Timothy O'Brien

We have had a request for information on Timothy O'Brien who was buried in the Kilmore Public Cemetery in 1862, after departing this life on the 9th December at the age of 65. The memorial was erected by James Lee.
He may have been the same Timothy O'Brien who arrived on the convict ship Siren in Van Diemen's Land in 1836 aged 37, or perhaps another Timothy O'Brien who arrived on the Blenheim in 1834 aged 35 and was assigned to a Mr Steel in Bathurst.

Used Book Sale 28 February

Our next Used Book Sale is scheduled for the end of February - it will be held on the Saturday of the 28th. These sales are always popular. Book Launch 3 February 2026

Our new book, "Kilmore: A Walk Through History" is now available and is being sold both at the Old Post Office and via the bookshop on Sydney Street. It runs to 124 pages and covers 80 properties in town, and comes with a brief history of Kilmore by Heather Knight, and an introduction by Fay Woodhouse. The price is $20 for members and $25 for non-members....

Gift Card Scam Reminder

The Royal Historical Society of Victoria has circulated a warning to all Historical Societies about a scam currently circulating. The warning sign is that a payment will be requested in the form of a gift card. Please note that no reputable organisation will ever ask for payment via gift card. You are almost certain to receive nothing in return if you send a gift card. If you receive such a request, ignore it!

Walk Book Arrives

The Kilmore Walk Book has been picked up from the printers and is now available from the Historical Society. The price is $25 for non-members and $20 for members. Copies will be on display and available at our next evening meeting on the 3rd February, which is also the date that we resume our activities after the Christmas break. Christmas Closure 16 Dec-3 Feb

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our members and visitors. The KHS rooms at the Old Post Office will close for the festive season after 16 December. We will re-open on Tuesday 3 February and follow normal opening hours thereafter. Emails will still be checked, so we can be contacted by email during the closure.

Walk Book Ready

The printers have notified us that the new Walk Book is being printed and should be ready before Christmas. This means that it will be available either as a present for someone else - or for yourself. The book will have 123 pages covering 80 properties and is fully indexed, with extensive introductory sections. If you would like to pre-order a copy let us know by email, and we will reserve a copy and let you know when they arrive.

December Meeting Coming Up

Our December meeting is nearly here. It will of course be a Christmas social function rather than a normal meeting. The date will be the first Tuesday of December, the 2nd. The meeting will be held at the Old Post Office, Powlett Street, but start at 6pm—earlier than the usual meeting time. Please bring a plate to share. We look forward to seeing all our members and friends for this festive get-together.
