Statement from Afghan Association of Hunter (AAH)

The Afghan Association of Hunter (AAH) extends our heartfelt thoughts and support to everyone affected by the incident on Newcastle Link Road this morning. What should have been a morning of excitement as our community came together to farewell the Newcastle Knights has sadly ended with people injured and our community shaken. Our thoughts are with those who have been injured, their families and loved ones. We also sincerely thank the police, paramedics, emergency services and everyone who responded to the incident. We wish all those injured a safe and speedy recovery and stand together with the wider Newcastle community during this difficult time.

AAH was proud to play a significant role in this important gathering. Our Women’s Officer, Malal Ahmadi, served as one of the MCs and did an amazing job. Her confidence, professionalism and dedication represented AAH and our community with great pride.

Our young men from AAH also played an important role in welcoming guests and supporting the program. Their teamwork, respect and commitment were a wonderful representation of our community.
Another very special moment was the recognition of the AAH President with a wonderful appreciation award, alongside many other outstanding individuals who have made valuable contributions to the Afghan community.

We sincerely thank Massoud Foundation for organising this meaningful and memorable program and for giving AAH the opportunity to be part of such an important occasion.

🌿 A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Community 🌿

On Saturday, we had the honour of coming together for a special program commemorating the 25th anniversary of the martyrdom of Afghanistan’s National Hero, Ahmad Shah Massoud, and marking five years of Afghan girls being deprived of their fundamental right to education.

It was a truly meaningful and successful evening. We were grateful to see so many members of our community come together to remember the legacy and sacrifices of Ahmad Shah Massoud and, at the same time, stand in solidarity with our sisters and daughters in Afghanistan.

For five years, our Afghan girls have been banned from education. Five years is far too long. We must continue to support our sisters back home, raise our voices for them, and remind them that they are not forgotten. Their education is their right, their dreams matter, and their future is the future of Afghanistan. ❤️📚

We were especially honoured to welcome guests who travelled from Sydney and Queensland to join us and share this important occasion. Your journey, support and presence meant so much to our community.

A special thank you to Mr Naveed Hazraty, President of the Tajik Association of Queensland Inc., for joining us and standing with our community on this important occasion.

This program was organised with the support of the Massoud Foundation Australia, Afghan Association of Hunter, and our dedicated members and volunteers. We sincerely appreciate everyone who worked behind the scenes and contributed their time, energy and commitment to making the evening such a success.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our supporters, partners and community friends: Councillor Elizabeth Adamczyk, Ward 4, City of NewcastleMayfield MosqueHMC - Hunter Multicultural Communities IncZara's HouseCALD CONNECTMosaic Multicultural ConnectionsSTARTTSSSI - Settlement Services InternationalAfghan Association of HunterTAFE NSWNSW Police ForceCharlotte McCabe Deputy Mayor of Newcastle Council

Your presence and support made this evening special. It showed the strength of our community when we come together for our history, our values and the future of our children Together, we remember.
