What does a career in care look like five years from now?

This National Safe Work Month, the focus turns to the future. For our Community Support Professionals, that means training that builds real skills, support to gain qualifications, and room to grow into new roles over time.

A job that looks after your future as well as the people you support.

Parents, siblings and partners of people living with disability often provide care for years, sometimes for a lifetime.

Having a trusted support team around your family can give everyone a little more space. It might be support with daily routines, help getting out into the community, or someone reliable so you can take a break.

As National Carers Week wraps up, a reminder to every disability carer: your wellbeing matters too.

Caring for a parent or partner can be one of the most meaningful things you do. It can also be exhausting.

Respite is not giving up. It is making sure you can keep going.

Whether it is a few hours a week so you can get to your own appointments, or regular support so you can have a proper break, your local Just Better Care office can help you explore respite and in-home support options, including through Support at Home.

Do you know a carer? Chances are you do.

This National Carers Week, here are a few simple ways to show you care:

Check in regularly, even with a quick message.
Offer a break, whether it is an hour or an afternoon.
Say thank you, and mean it.
Help them find support, so they are not carrying it all alone.

It is National Carers Week.

More than three million Australians care for a family member or friend who is older, living with disability, or managing a health condition. Many of them would never call themselves a carer. They are just doing what needs to be done.

If that sounds like you, this week is for you. What you do matters, and you do not have to do it alone.

Tag a carer in your life and let them know they are appreciated.

Today is World Mental Health Day.

Mental health affects every part of life, including how connected we feel to the people and places around us. For many older Australians, people living with disability and carers, isolation can creep in quietly.

A regular visit, a walk to the shops, a chat over coffee. Small moments of connection matter more than we often realise.

If today is a hard day, please reach out to someone you trust. Lifeline is available 24 hours a day on 13 11 14.

Kym celebrated her milestone birthday on her very first cruise, with Tracy from our team by her side the whole way.

They explored new places, watched the sunset from the deck and made some lovely memories along the way. We're so glad Tracy could be part of Kym's special trip.

Heard about the NDIS changes starting this month, but not sure what they mean for you?

From 1 October, budgets for social and community participation supports are being reset as plans are reviewed or renewed. Daily living and essential care supports are not affected by these initial changes.

If your plan changes, you still have options. Your local Just Better Care office can talk you through what is changing, and private in-home support can help fill any gaps, arranged quickly and without a lengthy assessment.

Read what participants need to know:

NDIS reforms explained: understand NDIS changes 2026, new NDIS planning, funding and eligibility, and what stays the same for now.

Today is the International Day of Older Persons.

It is a day to recognise the knowledge, stories and contribution older Australians bring to their families and communities, and to remember that getting older should never mean giving up the life you have built.

For most people, that life is at home. Familiar routines, a garden, the neighbours, the local cafe. Our Community Support Professionals help older Australians keep living that way, with support that fits around them rather than the other way round.

To every older Australian who keeps showing us what a full life looks like, thank you.
