What a turnout for Project Norden.
Veterans, Gympie RSL staff, members and people from across our local community came together to spend the morning doing something simple, but incredibly meaningful: cleaning and caring for the final resting places of our veterans and police officers.
-norden was founded by veterans Luke and Jasper, with a mission to bring veterans together through meaningful acts of remembrance and service. Their work involves visiting cemeteries and memorials, researching the stories of those who served, and ensuring their graves are respectfully maintained and their stories are not forgotten.
What began as an initiative to reconnect veterans with purpose, mateship and community has grown into a wider movement involving veterans, families and members of the public. Project Norden has already seen hundreds of military and police graves tended to through its events across Australia.
We were incredibly proud to welcome Luke and Jasper, the two founders of Project Norden, to Gympie, along with a team from RSL Queensland, who joined us in rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in.
Most importantly, today showed what can happen when a community comes together.
Every grave cleaned is another veteran or police officer remembered. Every story uncovered helps keep their service alive. And every person who lends a hand becomes part of that story.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along and contributed their time and effort.
Lest We Forget.
