The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is a volunteer-based fire and emergency service dedicated to
protecting life, property and environmental assets in regional and semi metropolitan South Australia. With approximately 15 000 volunteers and 110 staff, CFS provides a range of fire and emergency services
to more than 434 communities across South Australia. These incidents include:
• Bushfires,
• Structure and Motor Vehicle Fires,
• Road Crash Rescue,
• Hazardous Material Spills, and
• Support to the SA Metropolitan Fire Service and State Emergency Service. The CFS also works closely with local government to perform the important roles of fuel removal, bushfire
prevention and community bushfire and fire safety education.

Going the extra mile.

In the last 2 days, 5 members of Gumeracha Operations Brigade have practised their Incident Management roles at Region 2 Headquarters, Angaston, with other fire fighters and CFS staff.
They covered various roles including Radio, Resource systems, Logistics and Incident Controller Assistant. One member also mentored a Logistics Officer.
This is very important preparation to assist with major incidents this fire season, on Incident Management Teams, not only in our Region, but also elsewhere in our State.
Well done team, 👏.

Also, a shout out to other Group members from Hermitage and Paracombe Brigades who were on other teams. Other roles covered were Operations Officer, Situations Officer, Deputy Incident Controller and Planning Officer.

Gumeracha Group is doing so well in these behind the scenes essential roles. 👏

Happy Fathers Day to the Fathers and Father Figures in all of the Gumeracha Group Brigades and all of the SACFS. Our brigades are full of fathers and father figures who leave family regularly to help others on days like Fathers Day, Birthdays and Christmas Day because their skills are needed by others. We salute you all today. 👏

A big shout out to 3 of our brigade members who are spending 2 hours today training on a new system that we will be using soon to detail information from incidents and fire grounds. This is a replacement system that has radio messages we receive being entered by members, sharing information with other volunteers, staff and other agencies as needed.
We never stop learning and adapting to try and make our CFS brigade the best it can be. Thanks again to Bob, Terry and Mark for putting in this extra time. 👏

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning ⚠️ for DAMAGING WINDS 💨
Mount Lofty Ranges, Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of Flinders and Murraylands districts.
Issued at 9:08am CST on Friday 4 September 2026

Damaging winds possible for parts of southeast SA from early Saturday morning.

Weather Situation: A strong cold front is expected to approach southeastern SA tonight and continue to move east during Saturday morning. Strong northwesterly winds are expected to develop ahead of the system tonight, shifting westerly behind the front around sunrise.

For KANGAROO ISLAND and parts of the SOUTHEAST: DAMAGING WIND GUSTS with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible from early Saturday morning, most likely in showers and thunderstorms. DAMAGING WINDS are likely to contract to the Lower South East by midday and ease by the late afternoon.

For MOUNT LOFTY and FLINDERS RANGES: DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely from early Saturday morning, easing during the late afternoon.

Locations which may be affected include Mount Gambier, Clare, Murray Bridge, Kingscote, Naracoorte and Keith.

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;

* Secure or put away loose items around your property.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT CLARENDON WEIR AND OLD NOARLUNGA FROM EARLY TUESDAY MORNING

Moderate to locally heavy rainfall has been observed across the Onkaparinga catchment since Monday afternoon. This has caused river and creek level rises, and minor flooding is possible along the Onkaparinga River at Clarendon Weir from early Tuesday morning.

Last Tuesday, Gumeracha Operations Brigade hosted an information session on Air Operations in conjunction with Region 2 Air Operations Brigade. Our guest speaker Gary, has over 20 plus years volunteering in the aviation side of CFS fire fighting. We invited our fellow brigades, and ended up with around 80 firefighters updating their knowledge of aircraft, communications with pilots and air observers, safety and tactical air operations and how our ground based firies can assist the air crews. It was a very informative night and we loved hosting our mates from Birdwood, Cudlee Creek, Forreston, Gumeracha, Hermitage, Kersbrook, Mount Torrens and Paracombe Brigades. This is the largest information session hosted by the Gumeracha Operations Brigade Team, hopefully we can aim for an even bigger crowd next time. Fantastic effort by our brigade team members and well done to the 2 members who organised this night. 👏

✨A powerful reminder from Jim Keatch AFSM ✨

Chaplain to the South Australian Country Fire Service and firefighter with the Tea Tree Gully Brigade.

With 32 years of CFS service, including 28 years supporting members as a Peer Support Officer and Mental Health Professional, Jim shared a message at our recent Group Officers Seminar that truly resonated.

🧡The weight we carry in emergency services is often not the equipment we wear it’s what stays with us in our minds and hearts.❤️

Jim spoke about the importance of connection, resilience and looking after each other, reminding us that no one should have to carry the load alone.
