Right here in Geilston Bay, our club offers a relaxed space to enjoy the River Derwent, connect with others and be part of a welcoming local community.

The boat club pontoon was set alight and dangerously adrift last night, endangering watercraft and our timber jetties.

We would appreciate any security footage that can be offered to the police about this event. The pontoon is a much-used item at the club, and is a crucial tool for our jetty repair project in September.

We are devastated by this event, as we are a small group of volunteers working to keep up our facilities. We work hard to get grants, raise money, and rally together to care for our waterfront. This is a real setback to us. It may not have been a beautiful pontoon, but it sure was useful.

Thank you to whoever called it in, the police, fire, and water professionals, and our boat club bosun, all of whom came to help in the middle of the night.
