Women Of Lot Feeding

Women Of Lot Feeding The aim of Women of Lot Feeding is to support passionate women in the Feedlot industry and create a networking opportunity for them.

Women of Lot Feeding is the initiative of Amanda, who whilst participating in the Beef Connections Program developed the concept to network with women in other feedlots. Working together, Women of Lot Feeding was formed to provide support, networking, contacts and opportunity for women in all aspects of the lot feeding industry. Previously, there was no specific platform or group for women involv

ed in lot feeding. Whilst, there are field days and specific training days, we felt there was a need to have a group for women to connect within the industry. We would like Women of Lot Feeding to be an ongoing association benefiting women involved in the lot feeding industry. Our first event would be a High Tea at Jimbour House on Saturday 5th March 2015. We hope that the high tea will grow to become an annual event for our social calendars and a platform to showcase the feedlot industry from another perspective. This group will strive to advance, support and recognise women’s involvement, achievements and contributions in our industry. The Australian Lot Feeding industry does have a good representation of women in its ranks when compared to other Australian agricultural industries, particularly with the recent election of Tess Herbert as president of ALFA. The industry and its representative body ALFA have always been highly supportive of capable women. However women do face some unique challenges when it comes to their careers in the lot feeding industry, especially if they are considering starting a family. As women we need to support each other within an industry that is predominately male focused. Many women would like to have a family in the future, however by having a family do they have to sacrifice their careers? Many women feel by having a family and being out of the industry for a period of time, may inhibit her career growth prospects. Currently, there is not a platform or group available for us as women to discuss the personal issues we face or to gain knowledge from others experiences. As Women of Lot Feeding moves forward we see it being able to advance feedlots by offering programs and advice to help companies retain employees by providing better support and opportunities during maternity/paternity leave. By having Women of Lot Feeding there will always be a forum for woman to discuss situations we are dealing with and share our thoughts. This support network, would allow us to gain further insight about the common issues, both positive and negative, that we face within this industry.

Happy International Women’s Day.

Today we celebrate the incredible women who help drive not only the feedlot industry, but our communities, businesses, families and rural Australia forward.

From the yards to the office, from livestock care and nutrition to management, administration and leadership, women play a vital role in every part of the lot feeding sector. Their dedication, resilience and determination continue to strengthen our industry every single day.

But today is also about recognising women everywhere. The mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, leaders, mentors and hardworking individuals who support, inspire and uplift those around them.

At Women of Lot Feeding, we are proud to support, connect and empower women across the feedlot industry and rural communities.

Today we celebrate the achievements of women, the strength they bring to every role they take on, and the impact they continue to make.

Here’s to strong women, today and every day. 💜
